ridicule her out of her doubts until she responded in kind, and he would hold his hands up in defeat, or kiss her senseless, usually the latter.

An outsider, seeing the back-and-forth of one of their exchanges, would wonder at the affection the two held for each other, not understanding how these likeminded people revelled in challenging each other. Those who knew them, especially who knew Samuel, would privately marvel at how such a laconic, cynical man could change into a fun-loving, quick-to-laughter, overtly affectionate husband.

If anyone had cared to ask Samuel why he had changed so much, he would have given them an easy answer. It was because of his Esther. She was beautiful inside and out and was the only woman who could make him laugh, make his blood boil, and make him want to kiss her. All at the same time.

There is only one thing a man can do with a woman like that. Love her for the rest of his days, and that was exactly what he intended to do.

Families are complicated, and it doesn’t matter what era you look at, there are always secrets hiding just below the surface.

When I started writing Miss King’s Rescue, I fell in love with Dunn and Jones, especially Jones. I have come to the conclusion that I love a bad boy – I didn’t marry one, but I am always drawn to them when I’m writing! Jones needed a special heroine, someone who could keep him on his toes and who he would never get bored of. I thought Esther was perfect, but their journey was never going to easy.

With regards to the royal illegitimate children – there were loads. For a society that looked down on so much to do with women’s respectability, they accepted a man’s dalliances with far more forbearance. Not a lot has changed over the last few hundred years in that respect! This story is purely fictitious, but one day I started to wonder about what would happen if some anti-royals decided to target the monarchy, but not in a direct way. It gave me the basis for bringing Esther and Samuel together, and their story was born.

I do hope you enjoyed this trilogy. I have loved my “Lonely Hearts” and hope you have enjoyed their journeys. If you have enjoyed them and could leave a review, that would be wonderful.
