Capsizing Her Billionaire Boss - Sarah Gay Page 0,6

finger. “Because girls sometimes use me to make their boyfriends raging mad or to get them to pop the question.”

“He’s already asked me,” she said in a breathy voice.

Damian’s heart dropped. He was too late. As amazing as this girl seemed, he wasn’t willing to keep up the bad boy charade just to see if she’d cheat on her fiancé. He’d seen firsthand how cheating affected a family. And if she was the type of woman who would, then she wasn’t his angel.

“I haven’t given him an answer.” Her face clouded with an expression of dread.

Someone in love and about to get engaged wouldn’t look like they were headed to a funeral. Damian knew how love shone on someone’s face. Three of his brothers had succumbed to feverish love recently. Jack married his sweetheart on the beach two days ago. That same day, Rob got engaged and Wyatt met someone he was now head over heels for. Poppy didn’t belong with the guy who asked her to marry him; she didn’t love him—and Damian would prove it to her.

He clasped his hands together and leaned forward, resting his forearms on his thighs. “It doesn’t take a genius to decipher by your beautiful face that you’re still seeking.”

A teasing smile crossed her lips. “And what if you are the genius demigod I seek?” she asked, touching her laptop.

“Demigod?” he repeated, wanting to know if she’d seriously said what he thought he’d heard.

Her eyes grew wide with understanding, as if it took her mind a minute to register what she’d said. She smacked her mouth. “What I meant to say…” she mumbled out through her fingers before breaking eye contact with him. Her attention dropped to her laptop.

The jet traveled through a pulsating star, bathing Damian in instant sweat.

Considering the beads of perspiration on Poppy’s neck, she felt the heat between them as well. He’d been laughed at before—on more than one occasion—for not having understood a woman’s signals, but how could he misinterpret that exchange?

What would a seductive bad boy do? he asked himself. His answer came like thunder: Not waste an opportunity.

He reached for her, tilting her chin up with his fingertips. When their eyes connected, he looked down at her lips, then back into her eyes. Ever so slowly, he brought his face to within an inch of hers. He waited, breathless, for her to bridge the gap. When she did, he gave her a soft kiss. She reciprocated, shining a green light. Fire stirred in his chest. He kissed her deep, passing over the tender, exploratory first kisses and going straight to the good stuff. She smelled like cinnamon and tasted like oranges, reminding him of the citrus wassail Rob brewed for winter holidays. Kissing her sparked warm sentiments of home.

“Poppy?” Kai stared down at them with an expression of shock.

Poppy shoved Damian in the chest, throwing him back into his seat. He admired her spunk. She sat up and looked at Kai as if he’d just entered a board room. “Yes, Kai?” she said with complete composure.

Damian’s mouth dropped open in awe. He’d never seen such control.

Kai pointed to the hallway leading to the back of the plane. “You have a phone call. Sorry, I told him that you were in negotiations.” He looked between the two of them and smiled. “But he was adamant about speaking with you.”

“He called your cell?” Poppy asked with irritation.

Kai contorted his face as if answering her question would upset her even more. “You can have the private cabin to yourself until we land.” He scratched the side of his face. “Will you be going on to Dallas, or coming back with me?”

Dallas! Damian nearly jumped out of his seat with excitement, but a player would never do that.

Poppy glanced for a split second at Damian, then stood and addressed Kai. “Let me know how the negotiations end when we land. For my part, Dallas is now home.” She grabbed her phone from off her armrest, nodded to Damian, and was gone before Damian could articulate a simple question to ask what negotiations they were talking about.

Kai sat in Poppy’s seat and opened her laptop. He turned the screen to Damian and said, “My negotiation tactics might be slightly different than Poppy’s.”

“Which begs the question,” Damian said, throwing his hands in the air. “…What are you talking about?”

“A business proposal,” said Kai, handing Damian Poppy’s laptop with a Word document open.

“Oh,” Damian said with a nod. “Now that makes sense. Maybe
