Capsizing Her Billionaire Boss - Sarah Gay Page 0,4
port.
She stared at the luxury yacht docked in front of her. When they’d arrived at the yacht a minute earlier, a group of soldiers were escorting several men and a woman off the boat in handcuffs. Kai told Poppy to sit tight, then bolted onto the boat.
Less than five minutes later, Kai, along with several others, stepped off the yacht and onto the dock. Kai walked straight to her, motioning to a huge man being carried by four other husky guys. “That’s Wyatt and his brothers, Rob, Jack, Eli, and Damian.”
“What happened?” asked Poppy, straining to focus on the men in the dim starlight. Two of Wyatt’s brothers carried him by pressing their shoulders up and under his arms; the other two each took one of Wyatt’s legs.
The group passed close to Poppy, affording her a better view of the men. They were all handsome, but she couldn’t seem to tear her eyes off one of the brothers. “Damian? More like demigod,” she said under her breath. Music played in her head as she stared at Damian’s ethereal form. It wasn’t a slow, romantic song like they play at high school dances; it was the type of song where violins crescendo during an action sequence in a superhero movie.
Kai waved a hand in the air, ending the concerto in her head. “Leave it to an NFL superstar to punt and pummel the bad guys.”
Wyatt winced and reached for his ankle. His foot hung down at an unnatural angle.
Poppy gasped. “Is his foot broken?”
“Very,” said Kai with a sigh. “We’re flying him and his family to Puerto Rico. It’s less than an hour flight. We’ll stay the night there, then fly home tomorrow.” He stopped and turned to her, which caused her to nearly trip over her feet. “Unless you want to join his family on the medevac plane I’ve chartered in Puerto Rico. You’d be in Dallas by morning.”
Poppy’s eyes grew wide. “Dallas? Tomorrow?”
“Why not?” said Kai, opening her car door as Wyatt’s brothers helped him into one of the three black SUVs. Poppy tried to catch Damian’s eye, but he and his brothers circled around Wyatt, hyper focused on his injuries.
Poppy slid into the dark SUV, wondering if every prodigy’s mind worked like Kai’s. Her curiosity about the youngest two Jones brothers peaked. “You think Damian and Eli will want to start that quickly?”
“When you present my offer? Absolutely.” He rubbed his palms together with childlike excitement. “I could have your things packed and shipped tomorrow.” He jumped into the seat next to her. “You could shop office spaces—" He spoke at Mach speed.
“Kai,” she said, cutting him off with a shake of her head as she fastened her seatbelt. “We’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let me talk to them on the flight over to Puerto Rico, then I can decide what my next move will be.” Or if I’ll be making any kind of move at all, she said to herself.
Chapter Two
Turbulence shook the jet. Damian grabbed the back of Wyatt’s headrest to steady himself while he searched the plane for an empty seat. All eight seats were occupied.
Wyatt stirred awake. “You okay?”
Damian laughed as he looked into Wyatt’s droopy eyes. “You were struck by lightning, hurled off a volcano, and fist fought with drug runners.” Damian scrunched up his face in disbelief while he scratched the top of his head. “And you’re asking me if I’m okay?” A doped-up smile lit Wyatt’s face, causing Damian to laugh even harder. His brother was swollen, bruised, and broken, but he was still smiling. Nothing could hold the man back from life. No wonder he’d become a huge NFL superstar. The guy had mental strength beyond measure, but by the distant look in his eye, this was more than mental strength. “I guess your meds have kicked in. How are you feeling?”
Wyatt blinked to keep his eyes open. “Don’t feel a thing. Whatever Kai got his hands on to pump into me, it’s working.”
“That’s a blessing,” Damian said as the plane shook with more force. “I’m just gonna hang here if that’s okay. Why don’t you take a nap?” Damian needed to sleep as well, but that could wait another hour or two, until they were situated on their next flight back to Dallas.
When Damian and Mazy hadn’t returned from their hike yesterday afternoon and no one could reach them, the entire family had been thrown into a panic. They’d all spent the entire night trying to locate them.
Damian glanced
