Cabin of Axes - Bea Paige Page 0,32

credit. I made the soup,” Berrin says as he looks over at me from the opposite side of the table giving me a cute, almost shy, smile.

I raise a surprised brow. “You did? It’s delicious.”

“Thanks. I just threw it together whilst you were sleeping earlier.”

“Tied up, you mean?” I smile, letting him know that I’m over the fact I was restrained. I don’t have any recollection of my behaviour after he placed me in the tub and before passing out, but I do recall feeling insanely horny in Mathieson’s arms, so it isn’t much of a stretch that I’d behaved exactly the way Berrin had said I did. Did I deserve to be tied up? I can’t answer that, but the fact of the matter is, once I got over my initial shock, I liked it. I liked it a lot.

“Listen, I know it must have frightened you. Waking up like that…” Berrin winces, blowing out a breath.

“It did a little, but then… Well, you know what happened next.”

“I do.” His cheeks flush and it’s endearing that a big guy like him feels embarrassed all of a sudden. The fact of the matter is, I loved every second of his attention and would do it all again in a heartbeat.

“So you decided to cook some soup whilst I slept off my lust-fuelled madness.”

“Yeah, something like that. I figured you’d need feeding when you woke up, and Matt and Franklin will definitely be hungry when they get back.”

“Where have they gone?” I ask, placing my spoon in the now empty bowl.

“The rain finally stopped as dawn rose this morning, so they’re making a start at clearing the fallen trees across the road. It’ll help shake some of that excess… energy.” He pulls a face, clearly still concerned for his brothers, and for me. “The sooner the job’s done, the quicker we can get you to a hospital. See if they can figure out how to get your memories back.”

I nod, biting my lip to hide the disappointment I feel. I don’t want to leave here. I’m trusting my instincts and my instincts are telling me this is where I should be despite the raging lust and the prickling fear. Picking up the mug of black tea that Berrin sweetened with honey just the way I like it, I take a mouthful of the soothing liquid. Now that my thirst, hunger, and desire are satiated, I feel relaxed, at peace. The way I feel now is a far cry from the wretched state I’d found myself in when I’d woken up in the middle of nowhere terrified and alone in the forest. This is most definitely an improvement. Absentmindedly, I reach for the plastic bottle of honey and watch the strange, dark amber viscous liquid move as I tip it from side to side. Honey is normally a golden colour, this is a deeper, darker shade.

“Are you okay?” Berrin asks me after a beat.

“This honey, it has such an unusual taste,” I say, avoiding the intense look Berrin is giving me as I sip some more of my tea and set the bottle of honey back down. I’m not ready to open up completely just yet. Even though I’m convinced we know each other, there’s still a speck of doubt that has me holding back. Mainly because they’re all denying it, but also because I’m afraid I might just be a little unhinged. I don’t need to have my memories to know that my behaviour is way beyond odd. I mean, really, who trespasses in someone’s house rather than going to the police or to a hospital, then lusts after and proceeds to have sex with one of my captors in the space of a few days?

Me, I guess.

Then again, they’re not my captors, and despite Franklin and Mathieson’s recent behaviour, they’re just three men who have been kind and welcoming and didn’t chuck me out on my arse the second they found me asleep in their bed. They’re also hot. Combustible, panty-melting hot. I bite on my lip and squirm a little in my seat remembering how hard Berrin had fucked me and how much I liked it, crave it still.

“Darling…”

Berrin’s low tone snaps me out of my thoughts and my cheeks flush as my tongue slides out of my mouth to sooth the spot I was biting so hard on. His gaze flicks to my lips and his eyes darken once more.

“Sorry, I was miles away,” I say, smiling to
