Broken Trust(Devastation Duet #2) - Winter Paige Page 0,28
think, Darlin’. We know that you hurt, and it makes us crazy, too.” Abel stands in front of me as Costin joins him.
“You know how we know, Princess? Because when you hurt, we hurt.” Costin brushes his knuckles down my cheek.
“You remember when we had that discussion about your decisions affecting others a couple years ago?” Jaxx asks, much calmer. I nod. “Well, right now, your decisions affect us all. We are trying to do what you asked of us, but when you put yourself in danger, you put us all in danger. We might not always make the best choices, but we would lay down our lives for you in a second.”
“So, before you go diving over anymore balconies, remember that you are pulling all of us over with you,” Costin says, taking my hands and helping me up, wiping the stray tears from my face.
“I’m sorry, guys. I’m just… I don’t know. Tired of fighting, I guess. Will it ever end, or are we playing this game forever? The wedding is in less than two weeks.” I look down at my feet and sigh when their phones sound, no doubt pulling them away from me again.
“It’s Andrew. We have to head out, baby.”
“Yeah.” I flop back to the bed. “I’m going to call the girls. I just really don’t want to be alone tonight, okay?”
“They have to come here, Darlin’. You can’t go out. It’s all hands on deck. Please, don’t make us worry tonight. I love you, but my heart can’t handle much more this week. Let us focus on solving this puzzle, and then you can have all the girls’ nights you want.” Abel chuckles, hugging me tightly.
“I miss our girls’ nights, Abel.” I laugh with him.
“Soon, Darlin’, soon. We’ll be out shaking our sexy asses in no time.” He swats my behind and heads out the door.
“I’m here, Princess, Always,” Costin promises, walking out the door. If only it were that simple.
“I love you, baby.” Jaxx kisses me sweetly. “Please, please listen to me. We can’t push this. You know what the alternative could be. Help me; don’t fight me. We are in this together.” He spins me in a circle and tickles my ribs. “I want to dance, too, damn it.”
“Together.” I smile up at him, brushing a kiss to his jaw. “I’m sorry, Jaxx. I will behave. Please, just… check in?”
“I will. Be safe, and be smart, baby. Keep the girls in here. It’s not the best idea, but it’s the best we’ve got for now. We’ll get through this.” He walks to the door, giving me a sad smile. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Jaxx.” I watch him leave, the soft clicking of the closing door feeling more like the slamming of my prison cell.
Chapter Twelve
Eliana
“Come on, Lili. Let’s go out. I’m bored.” Isa whines from my bed, holding out our second bottle of whisky.
“Look, I told you all I can’t go out tonight. After everything that happened with the paparazzi from my time with Jonah, I can’t go out without protection, and Daddy gave my detail the night off. No security, no leaving the house.” I half-lie, flopping down beside her.
“Speaking of Jonah-” Nat sits down beside us, holding out her phone. “-say hi, ladies.”
I grin at the screen, seeing an exhausted looking 3J smiling back at us.
“Hiii!” we yell together.
Jonah holds up a finger, winking and walking away from his bandmates. Weird. Then, my phone rings.
“Hi, Jonah,” I laugh taking in his mischievous grin. “How is rock stardom treating you?”
“Exhausting.” He chuckles. “Enough about me. Am I getting an insider look into the life of Eliana Jameson? Holy shit, that’s a lot of pink! Is that a castle above your bed?”
“Oh, now come on, Jonah. A castle above a princess’s bed is about as common as a groupie in a rock star’s bed.” I laugh, walking into my closet and shutting the door to keep out the snoops… also known as my girlfriends.
“Not this rock star. I don’t see the appeal.” He shrugs.
“Whatever,” I tease. “I remember a certain singer pulling me up on stage and asking for a night with me before-“
“Before.” He laughs. “Anyways, show me around your room, I want to see everything. Where are you right now?”
“This, my dear friend, is my closet.”
“Your closet? There are photos on the walls!” He rolls with laughter. “It’s bigger than the tour bus!”
“Well, to be fair, nearly everything is bigger than the living quarters of a tour bus,
