Brick's Fight (Infernal Sons MC #5) - Carol Dawn Page 0,44

stands and walks away.

“Would you like me to sit with you?” Wolf asks.

I look up and see him watching me. He’s a handsome man. He’s tall with broad shoulders and long black hair.

When I nod, he sits and turns on a small flashlight. It’s then that I can see the smaller details of his face. His eyes look brown. Maybe even black. His nose is a little crooked, as if it was broken in the past. He’s wearing jeans, a black shirt, and the same vest Brick and his brother’s wear.

His skin is a beautiful light brown. He’s more than handsome; he’s ruggedly beautiful.

“Are you Cherokee?” I ask, then slam my hand over my mouth. “I’m sorry. Was that rude to ask?”

Wolf chuckles.

“Not at all,” he smiles. “How will you ever learn things if you don’t ask questions? To answer your question, yes, I am Cherokee.”

“Wise words,” I say.

I nod my gratitude and look back at the house. From where we’re sitting, I can see the front door and some of the yard. Tree’s are blocking the rest.

“I haven’t known Brick long,” Wolf admits. “But from what I have learned so far, your mate is a fierce man.”

“I know he is,” I smile. “But it doesn’t stop me from worrying.”

“As is your right,” he tells me.

We sit in silence while we wait. For the first ten minutes, we hear nothing. Just the nocturnal animals singing their songs. I’m so focused on the house that I don’t notice when Wolf leaves. Or that someone else was sneaking up behind me.

“Thought you could get away from us, again, little bunny?”

I freeze.

“Did your mother tell you who I was?” he asks.

I can’t find the strength to turn around or shake my head. Why did Wolf leave me? Was this his plan the entire time? To wait for Brick to be too distracted and then hand me over?

“Many years ago,” the man says. “I paid your mother a considerable sum of money to make you a star. The bitch disappeared that very night after only one session.

It took years to find her. But I finally did just over a year ago. I almost killed her, but she made me a deal. She’ll sell your little pussy until she pays back the money she owes, plus interest. Then, I’ll take my earnings and leave her to live her life, however she wishes.”

“There’s only one problem with that.”

I finally unfreeze and turn to see the man standing there, frozen. Behind him, Wolf is standing with a knife against the man’s throat.

“First,” Wolf says. “No one will ever touch this woman without her consent again. And Two, you’re about to die.”

The man starts to talk but can’t seem to form any coherent words.

“Look away, Miss Jessa,” Wolf says. “This is something you’ll never be able to unsee.”

I understand his concern. I square my shoulders and look into the evil man’s eye.

“Alrighty then,” Wolf chuckles.

I watch as Wolf’s knife slices across the man’s throat as if it’s warm butter. At first, all I see is the deep cut the knife makes. Then the blood starts pouring out. I move my eyes back up to his and watch as the fearful look disappears and is replaced by the most empty look I’ve ever seen.

When the man falls, Wolf steps over the body and ushers me away.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you what was happening,” he tells me. “I was afraid that he would hear us. I promise you that I was never going to let him lay a finger on you.”

I spin around and hug him.

“That better not be your arms around my woman.”

I spin back around just as Brick makes his way across the yard. I’m not sure what went down inside the house, and I honestly don’t care. I start to run towards him when a loud bang disturbs the night air.

Brick freezes, and time seems to slow down. His eyes grow wide, and he slowly falls to his knees. He’s looking right at me as he reaches his hand up to the right side of his neck. It’s only then that I see the blood pouring from beneath his fingers and down his body.

He starts to fall forward, and I make it to his side just in time to catch his head from hitting the ground. Wolf and Hawk are kneeling on the ground only seconds later.

“CALL AN AMBULANCE AND GET THE FUCKING TRUCK,” Hawk screams.

They manage to turn him onto his back, his head
