Brick's Fight (Infernal Sons MC #5) - Carol Dawn Page 0,2

that I’ve been dreading.

“No,” Doc answers. “Rape kit shows that she wasn’t sexually abused. And she tells me that she was never physically abused either.”

The weight on my shoulders lifts slightly with his answer. I’m still beyond pissed, and I will make them pay. But, knowing that my beautiful Jessa wasn’t violated or physically abused the past six months has me breathing just a little bit easier.

“Can we see her?” Coach asks.

“Yes, but if she wants to sleep, please let her do it. She has been encased in a dark room for the past six months. As strange as it sounds, it confused her brain about the time of day, which resulted in extreme sleep deprivation.”

With a nod to the doc, we head into the dimly lit room. Sitting up on the bed is a woman I don’t recognize. Gone is the light in her eyes, wavy brown hair, and beautiful curves. Sitting in her place is a woman with fear in her eyes, thin, stringy hair, and too many protruding bones under her skin.

She’s still beautiful. She’s still going to be mine. But I will fight with everything I have to get her back to the way she was. I will do whatever it takes to put life back into her soul.

“Mouse,” Coach whispers, sitting on the side of the bed.

Jessa looks at her dad, and tears fall down her beautiful face.

“Daddy.”

Her voice is hoarse and barely a whisper.

“Yeah, baby girl. I’m here.”

I wait a few minutes in the dimly lit room as they just sit there looking at each other. The fear in Jessa’s eyes never goes away, but I can see a small spark of hope light up her face.

I make my way to the bed and stand next to Jessa’s head. I don’t know what to say. The woman doesn’t even know who I am.

“Real?” she asks.

“Am I real?” she nods her head.

“I am,” I answer. “As real as you are, sweetheart.”

Coach stands, and I take his spot on the bed. I reach out and grab one of Jessa’s hands.

So tiny compared to mine. So cold.

“Brick,” she whispers.

I’m shocked that she knows who I am. We’ve never met before today.

“Brick…protect.”

“With my very last breath,” I whisper. “I’ll never let anything happen to you again, baby.”

With tear-filled eyes, she smiles.

I sit there holding her hand as she fights sleep. Knowing that she needs every second of rest she can get, I stand, lean down to kiss her nose and each eye.

“Sleep, sweetheart. I swear on my mama’s life that you’re safe,” I promise.

It doesn’t take long for her to fall asleep.

“She’s a shell of who she was,” Coach says when I meet him in the hallway.

I glance back into the room where Jessa is sleeping. “Maybe,” I say. “But she’s alive.”

“I talked to the Doc while you were in there,” Coach tells me. “He said she could come home in about a week. He wants her here and supervised while she works through the last batch of heroin those fuckers gave her.”

I take another look at my woman and come to a decision.

“I have to go,” I tell Coach. “I’ll be back in a couple of hours.”

“Fucking finally,” he mutters as I walk away.

I need to protect Jessa. I have no idea who took her. I have no idea where she’s been. But I do know one thing for sure; I can’t do it on my own anymore. It’s time I bring in the Sons. It’s time I ask my family for help.

Chapter Two

Brick

I’ve been with the Infernal Sons for about ten years now. I was prospecting when I was twenty-three. The president at the time, Bass, took a look at me one day and pretty much demanded that I come and give it a shot.

I was reluctant at first. I was raised on a farm. I spent my days waking up early and working my boots off until it was time for bed. I wasn’t sure I had what it took to be a biker.

“A bike isn’t much different from a horse, cowboy, just a bit faster,” Bass had said.

He wasn’t wrong.

I was at the point in my life where I wanted to spread my wings and find my own future. As much as it disappointed my father, I couldn’t see myself working the lands for the rest of my days.

So, I spent a few months hiring workers to help my dad. Then, I took Bass up on his offer. I prospected for a little over
