Boy in the Club a boy & billionaire novel - Rachel Kane Page 0,114

shook his head. Whatever was going on with Daniel could wait. He turned back to Hawk. “You’re all coming to dinner tonight. I’m going to show him off.”

For the first time since he’d gotten out of the limo, Hawk smiled. He reached up and chucked Colby under the chin. “Our little billionaire, all grown up, with a man of his own. Who would have thought it? And meeting a guy at the club—”

Colby shuddered. “By the way…maybe don’t mention the club to Finn. He’s good now, he’s feeling better about everything…I just don’t want there to be a dark cloud over him.”

“You took care of the guy though, right? What’s his name? Jimi?”

“Oh yeah. Trust me. Jimi was given a one-way ticket to Costa Rica, and my guys explained in excruciating detail what happens if he ever steps foot in the US again. Lawsuits and referrals to the attorney general are only the beginning. They’re keeping an eye on him down there. He knows what’s good for him. He’ll stay gone.”

“Who knew that clubs had such sordid ownership? I never would’ve invited you if I’d known…god, I thought we were just there to meet cute guys.”

“Well, I never would’ve met Finn if you hadn’t dragged me out, so don’t feel too bad!”

Dinner. The word could hardly conjure the magic that was taking place, as tablecloths were swept into place, silver arranged just so, dishes and bowls and glasses arriving in almost military order, delivered by waiters in crisp white gloves and aprons.

“This is fancier than it was last time,” Finn whispered from his spot by the door.

Noah leaned past Colby to say to Finn, “We’re trying something new…a deluxe dining experience. You know, for when people rent us out for weddings and things.”

“Weddings, eh?” asked Colby, careful not to look at Finn.

“Wait your turn, big guy. There are four other couples in front of you.”

“Nah,” Colby said, “I’ve got an in with the owners.”

“The owners are three of those couples.”

“Oh.”

Finn snickered at this back and forth. “Shall we go in?”

“That’s what I’m supposed to say!” protested Noah, waving them into the dining room.

The men all settled into their seats; Colby and his friends looking right at home amid the luxurious surroundings, Finn’s friends all looking around wide-eyed and a little nervous.

“How will I know which spoon to use?” whispered Roan.

“Start with the one on the outside, then work your way in. You’ll be fine,” said Finn.

A rustle from the door had them turning their heads. “Sorry I’m late!” said Dalton.

“You’re not dressed for dinner!” Noah exclaimed.

“Well, some of us had to be at work, you’ll remember, while others of us were on vacation.”

They exchanged a quick kiss, and Dalton sat next to Noah.

“I’m glad you’re back, little brother,” Dalton said to Colby. “The place doesn’t run the same without you. I need an assistant. Mary’s not coming back for another month, and—”

“No assistants!” said Noah, and Finn burst out laughing, nearly spraying his champagne across the table.

Dalton groaned. “Don’t any of you boys know how to answer a phone and work a computer?”

Polly hesitantly raised a hand.

“There. You. You’re hired. Come tomorrow.”

“Where is the food?” Colby asked. “I’m starved!”

“Maybe you’d like to go to the kitchen and get it yourself?” asked Noah.

“Yeah,” said Finn, “and while you’re in there…get the butter.”

Nobody at the table knew why Colby laughed so hard at that, nor why Noah glared at them both before breaking into laughter himself.

“Do fairy-tales have to end?” Finn asked that night, as they strolled through the garden.

“You don’t want to go back home?”

“I guess I do. I miss the city, in a way. There’s so much about it I associate with my former life though…it’s hard.”

Colby took his hand. “I get it. Part of me never wants to go back either. Atlanta’s the past. Maybe Dalton was right to move down here. Not that Superbia can compare with a real city, but…there are things happening down here, good things, important things.”

“You know, we haven’t really talked about what happens next,” said Finn.

Colby raised his eyebrows. “Next? Like, going in for drinks before bed?”

Finn shoved him gently with his shoulder. “Like, next. Am I moving in with you?”

“I thought that was understood.”

“You could move in with me and the guys. I’m sure they’d enjoy having a billionaire as a roommate.”

“Ye-ea-eah…Finn, I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve seen that house. I want to be by your side forever, but…let’s live in my place instead.”

“See? We talked about it, and
