of my bones.
“No. But that’s when Pops is comfortable handing the club over to me to run. I’m good with that, I don’t feel ready to be in control of finances, businesses, or brothers and the trouble they all seem to find themselves in at one time or another.”
“Are they rowdy? Your brothers?” That’s a loaded question if I’ve ever heard one. How do I answer that without scaring her away before I get the opportunity to lay my claim properly on her?
“They’re men, sweetheart. Young, dumb and full of cum,” I express, waggling my eyebrows at her as I say this. “Just typical bullshit really. Nothing too serious, but immaturity is branded into them with their lack of life experiences behind them.”
“Makes sense. Jax is a little on the nutty side as well,” she nonchalantly states, but all I want to know is who this Jax fucker is and if I’m gonna have to bury him six-feet under. She must feel my body tense because she goes on to say, “Don’t worry, Jax is no threat to you, Blaze. We grew up together, our fathers are best friends who also grew up together. It’s a family thing to where the cubs become besties,” she teases me, causing all the tension to leave my body. Her voice carries a melodic tune through the air to my ears from her sweet, sensual voice. “Well, they were best friends before my father decided he wanted to be a one-man den.”
I choose not to broach the subject further on her father, it seems to be one that upsets and hurts her. I don’t want our first day together to be filled with painful memories.
“So, the past two generations have birthed best friends I’m taking it.” She laughs, nodding her head yes. “My best friend is in the Marines. He left right out of high school and I haven’t seen him since. We wrote letters back and forth for a few years, but life sorta got in the way. He married another soldier and had twin cubs within a year. I still hear from him every now and then, but not as often as I’d like to.”
“He found his mate in the Corps? That’s amazing, Blaze. We never know when we’ll meet that person or under what circumstances. I bet it’s hard to serve our country and still keep a marriage and family intact.”
“Yeah. He’s a leopard like me and she’s a unique albino panther. Their cubs are beautiful little girls. He sent me a photo last Christmas of the family in front of a tree. To be honest with you, I was kind of jealous that he’d already found his mate and started his family while I was prospecting; cleaning shit from toilets and patched members’ vomit up after parties.” Her eyes widen upon my confession then she sticks her tongue out and makes an ‘ack’ sound. “It’s not the prettiest of jobs, but we all have to serve our time to gain our patch and position within the ranks.”
“Are those days over for you, Blaze?” She stops walking and looks up at me with the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen. Her auburn hair is whipping in the air from the breeze and her lithe, athletic body hones true to the animal she’s harboring inside of her. I want to lick every inch of her, map out her body and seal the memories in a vault inside my mind.
“As of two weeks ago, they are. I received my patch and member’s cut. Best day of my life other than today,” I admit, watching as her eyes glaze over once my words penetrate. I know we’re both struggling to keep our hands and teeth to ourselves, it’s hard for mates upon meeting. Our instincts are to claim and announce to the world that the other is off limits. Not to mention, our hormones and animals are raging, clawing with need inside of us, to seal the bond.
“It’s good to know I rank up there pretty high,” she jests, as we both break out into peals of laughter.
My memories are interrupted by the ringing of my cell phone. Reaching into my desk drawer, I pull it up and look at the display. The caller ID shows that it’s Chief Anderson calling. “Fuck, this can’t be good.”
Closing my eyes for a brief second, I hit the green phone button, answering the call. “Chief, what can I do for you today?”
“We have a problem, Blaze. You may
