wore a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. My pussy ached for brutal, rugged Collin.
I slipped out of his grasp, rushed to the back of my truck, and grabbed my first aid kit and a blanket.
“Collin, I’ll follow you.” Harry jumped behind the wheel of my truck.
Collin opened the back-passenger door of his truck, threw Peter inside, and zip tied his hands. He stalked to the other side of the truck and helped me into the back seat. I buckled me and Peter’s seat belts, then tended to his superficial wounds.
Peter’s lips curled upward as I blotted his bruised face with an alcohol gauze.
“It was worth it.”
My brow wrinkled. “What was?”
“Pissing your boyfriend off so I could sit close to you,” he whispered.
My eyes darted to Collin. He didn’t hear what Peter said. Thank goodness or Collin would have snapped his neck.
“Kara, how do you adjust to the long stints of daylight?”
“I just do. It’s what I’m used to. That’s why it was better for us to live here in the winter. You wouldn’t have to adjust to eighteen hours of daylight.”
“Good point. But I’d like to embrace it all.”
A smile curled my lips. After tending to Peter’s wounds, I scooted closer to the door.
“Everything all right back there, Kara?”
My hands and body stopped shaking. “Yes.”
“Are you hungry, baby?”
“We were supposed to have a quiet dinner at home.”
“Babe, I told you he’d show up.” Collin winked through the rearview mirror.
“You baited me? Smart, asshole.”
“Hey, dude. I was tired of you hanging around every corner, stalking my woman. I brought my bodyguard from L.A. to watch over Kara and to watch your ass. He learned your schedule. And boy, are you obsessed with my fiancée. Don’t you want to know how we’re on our way to grandma’s house without you giving us directions?”
Peter shook his head. “You’re a rich boy from a big city. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how you found out where she lives.”
“If I catch your ass back in Talkeetna, I will kill you,” Collin growled.
My hands shook again. “Collin, can you stop at a gas station? I’d like snacks to tide me over for the next four hours.”
“Sure.”
The moment Collin hopped out the truck, I turned to Peter. “Get over your obsession with me. I’m warning you.” My eyes narrowed.
“If you ever return to Talkeetna to fuck with me, you won’t have to worry about Collin. I’ll be the one holding the double barrel shotgun pointed in your face.”
Sadness fell over his pale features. “You wouldn’t?”
“Oh, yes, I will. I’m tired of being harassed by you. I hate you couldn’t just walk away. Collin and I are bringing our child into this world soon. He or she is our only focus.”
He dropped his head. “I can’t believe you allowed him to take your virginity and impregnate you.”
A shiver shot up my spine. “How did you know I was a virgin? Guys talk in our small town. Besides, Eric has a big mouth. He told me and Garrett a few years back you were still a virgin.”
I planned to tear my best friend a new asshole.
“At this point, it doesn’t even matter. I am with my future husband. So accept it or don’t. I don’t give a shit. Just stay away from me and mine.”
I hopped out the back seat and climbed into the front. Collin sat behind the steering wheel and placed my snacks in the middle console.
“Kara, take a nap.” He lifted his shirt. My wide eyes fell on the Glock.
“It better not come to you pulling that gun from your waistband.”
“If he gets out of line, I’ll knock him over the head with the butt of the gun.”
My fingers rolled across my brow. I lost my appetite. After I buckled my seat belt, I leaned against the door. “Collin, wake me when we arrive.”
He bent over and kissed my temple. “Will do, baby.”
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
KARA
My eyes fluttered open. The headlights shined on Collin and Peter. He slipped a switch blade through the zip ties around Peter’s wrists.
“Find a job in town. Take care of your grandmother and forget about Kara.”
“I’ll never forget her,” he bit out.
“You know what? Suit yourself.” Collin stepped closer, pointing his finger in his face. “If you return to Talkeetna, you’ll leave a dead man.”
Collin stalked back toward the truck.
I closed my lids, pretending to be asleep.
We settled into a lodge twenty minutes later. Harry stayed in the room next door. I sat on the bed, channel surfing.
Collin handled Peter. I
