A Billionaire's Cabin Love - Posey Parks Page 0,45
I’d like to hear it from her.” She swung her long brown wavy hair over her tan slender shoulder.
Why did she question if I’d permanently live here? “Yes, I’m here for good.”
Legs crossed to one side; she clenched her hands in her lap. “Collin, has never been serious about a woman before. You’ve definitely made an impression on our son.” She peered over her shoulder.
“Collin, I’ll take one of these pretty drinks you made Kara.”
He nodded as he placed the ingredients on the bar.
“Kara, how old are you?”
“Twenty-five.”
“You both are so young.”
“Mom, age has nothing to do with it. We make each other happy.” He sat the drink before her and kissed her cheek.
“She’s your future daughter-in-law.”
Her eyes widened. “Marriage?” She clutched her precious pearls.
“You’ve only known each other a little over two months.”
“Mrs. Daughtry, we aren’t getting married any time soon.”
But we could be pregnant. Bile rose in my throat. “Bathroom…please.” I cupped my hand over my mouth and shot to my feet.
Collin ushered me down the hall, into the powder room, and closed the door.
I dropped to my knees, hovering over the toilet. Collin held my hair. Felt like my guts poured into the porcelain bowl.
His powerful hand caressed my back. “Baby, we’ve been in the bathroom in the middle of the night all week. All you do is vomit. Pretty sure you wait till after I leave for work to run to the bathroom.”
I dry heaved, clutching the sides of the bowl. “I can’t stand you seeing me like this.”
“It doesn’t bother me, Kara.” He helped me to my feet. I leaned over the beautiful decorative copper sink and rinsed out my mouth.
“Kara, let’s talk.”
“Do they keep mouthwash in the powder room?” I peeked at the decorative fixtures. “This is a spacious bathroom.”
“Every bathroom is stocked with toiletries. Mom said you never know when we’ll have visitors. Our extended family’s pretty big.” He walked over to the closet and slid the door open. Collin returned, unscrewed the top, and placed the container on the counter.
“I have a pretty good idea of what’s happening, but I’d like to hear you say it.” He laid a hand towel on the counter.
Our eyes locked in the mirror as I swished the mouthwash.
What was I supposed to say? I’m pregnant. I’ve researched my symptoms online for a week. They all led to me being pregnant. I could have purchased a test at any time. Shit, I was in denial.
“No plans on answering?” He slipped his arms around my waist and kissed my temple.
“Kara, I love you. If we’re having a baby, tell me. Do you think I can’t handle it?”
“I don’t think I can handle it, Collin. We knew we’d get pregnant sooner or later. We’ve never used protection.”
His eyes narrowed. “And we never will. I look forward to starting a family with you.”
I clutched his arms.
“Are we having a baby?”
“I haven’t taken a pregnancy test. I’d rather not mention it to your parents tonight.”
“That’s understandable. On the way home, we’ll pick up a few tests.”
“Collin, there is no rush to get married if we’re pregnant.”
His nostrils flared. “We’ll get married before the baby arrives.”
I wiggled out of his arms. “We don’t know if we’re pregnant. There’s no rush.” Gripping the knob, I swung the door open.
Eyes wide, his mother stood in the hall, staring between us. “Are you pregnant?”
I fell back into Collin’s muscled chest. “No, I’m sorry we don’t know. We aren’t concerned about the matter right now.”
She stepped closer and rubbed my arms. “Why?”
“I don’t want to be rude, but I’d rather Collin and I discuss the matter later alone.”
“Do you think you were pregnant before you arrived?” She ignored my words.
“Is that why Collin felt obligated to move you to California?” Her eyes fell over me like I was a dirty rag.
My stomach swished. Please hold on, Kara. At least until you get out the door. Then vomit all over her perfectly manicured lawn. Fucking bitch. I knew his parents wouldn’t approve of our relationship. I refused to answer her.
I stared back at her with just as much venom in my eyes.
“What’s going on down here, Doris?” Mr. Daughtry’s heavy, expensive, designer soles smacked the black slate tiles as he approached. I swear that scowl had been in place since I arrived, hell maybe even before.
“Allan, I think Kara is pregnant.” She smoothed her hands over her pink dress that stopped at her knees.
He clapped his hands. “I knew it. You knocked her up while you were
