rotated his hips, making fresh waves of pleasure wash over her.

As he buried himself deep inside her over and over, his eyes never leaving hers, he reached between her legs and began to stroke her swollen nub. Gasping and panting as he took her higher and higher, each spiral of his finger making the tight knot deep inside her grow, she let the power of their passion sweep her away, and her body responded with pleasure so intense, it took her breath away.

When Reggie joined her only a few minutes later, his cries of satisfaction echoing through the cave, the air around them shimmered as generations of shifters blessed their love. Janice felt the power of the moment deep inside her in the place where the warmth of the miracle of life pulsed happily. She couldn’t help but smile at her secret, wondering when she’d tell him, but decided to hold onto it for just a bit longer.

Reggie bundled her up under the blankets a few minutes later, put some more wood on the fire, then brought over a heaping plate of food. “Eat up. It’s going to be a busy night,” he said, grinning at her.

“And there goes the romance of the entire night,” she said, grinning back at him.

“Who needs romance when you have great sex?” he said, winking at her. “But since it’s important to you, we can have both.”

Chapter Twenty

***Reggie***

Reggie stood looking out of the window, waiting for the council meeting to start, his dark robe heavy on his shoulders. His father had no idea what was coming, and it didn’t bother him a bit. In fact, he was looking forward to seeing the look on his father’s face when his world came crashing down around him. It did bother him that he was so unfeeling toward the one man who should have inspired more than just hate in him, and he promised himself that when the day came that he was a father, he wouldn’t repeat the mistakes his father had made.

Jacob came through the door, a pleased smile on his face. “Okay, everyone is ready for you inside,” he said.

“And outside?” he asked, suddenly a bit nervous.

“Peter and the shifters he brought are waiting in the kitchen; the hall is so packed, there are people spilling out into the hallways. I don’t think anyone wants to miss this,” Jacob said.

“Have you seen my father?” he asked, stepping away from the window and looking in the mirror, not recognizing himself in the robes.

“He’s holding court in the study with some of the other councilmen,” Jacob said. “By now, he should be starting to get a few frantic messages.”

Reggie couldn’t help the smile that broke out on his face. “This is going to be more fun than I realized,” he said. “Watching my father fall apart in front of the entire clan should be worth the price.”

Jacob raised his eyebrows. “You may not be saying that when you see the price tag for this little stunt of yours,” he said. “You could be broke before this is all over.”

He shrugged. “I don’t care about the money. I can make it back if I have to.”

“Janice might not agree with that sentiment,” Jacob said.

“She doesn’t care about my money and you know it,” Reggie said. “Where is she?”

“Right in the center of gallery, surrounded by our people. No one is going to get to her,” Jacob said. “I’ll join her when we’re through here.”

A knock on the door told him that it was time to face his father, time to change the course of the clan for the better. He just hoped he could pull it off. Peter had assured him that his father wouldn’t have enough votes to put his proposal through, but there was still a small part of him that couldn’t quite believe that his father wouldn’t win just as he always did.

But then he thought of Janice waiting for him on the other side of the door, thought about the shifters who were depending on him, and the feeling vanished, replaced by the knowledge that he was doing the right thing. Jacob crossed the room and opened the door, looked back at Reggie, nodded his head, and walked out of the room. He took a deep breath, squared his shoulders, knowing that nothing would ever be the same, then strode out of the room to greet his future.

***Janice***

Janice crossed her legs, uncrossed them, then crossed them again, knowing that she was probably driving
