was an inconspicuous hiding spot.

Dakota watched in fascination as he took three more vials and filled them with saline solution. “What are you doing?”

Bennett shrugged. “Better to be overly cautious. I am purely doing this because I saw it in a movie once, and this is making me feel like a secret spy.” The smile he gave here was warm and encouraging. He really was good looking. She could barely even tell how lanky he was anymore.

She nodded, but she didn’t like that he felt the need to literally hide the serum out of sight. “Let’s just get the information from Nick and Gray so we can put that back where it belongs.”

Dakota turned to go back upstairs, but Bennett grabbed her arm and twisted her to face him.

“Before you go back upstairs…”

He didn’t finish his sentence. Instead, he lowered his head until he could brush his lips against hers. Every single thought she had of not letting herself be distracted from her work, not even by her mate, flew right out of her head. His lips deepened the kiss, moving against hers in a delicious rhythm. When he added his tongue to the mix, Dakota moaned and crushed her breasts into his chest, holding onto him tightly.

Her tigress was roaring in victory in her head, but Dakota could barely hear it. All she could manage to hear was Bennett’s heartbeat. It was fast, but light. He was happy and enjoying himself. She hated to think that his newfound confidence was because of all the kisses they seemed to share, but it made sense.

She pulled away from the kiss, breathless and even hornier than she had been the night before.

“We have got to stop doing that,” she said.

His face fell, and he let go of her, stepping away. “Oh. I am so sorry. I thought…” He coughed uncomfortably.

“No. I mean, I like the kisses. Too much. A lot. It’s distracting. I have a job to do, and I can’t do it properly if I’m always thinking about you and the way you kiss.”

His brow furrowed. “The way I kiss?”

“Well, yeah. They are very good kisses.”

Bennett blushed, and for a second, Dakota thought he was going to retreat into the shy man she had met the day before. Instead, he took her in his arms and proceeded to put all of their previous kisses to shame.

It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t sweet.

It was dirty and rough. It was a mess of tongue. Teeth clashed, and hands grabbed.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered against her lips. “If you want me to stop doing that, I will. But you need to know that it’ll be the hardest thing I ever have to do. I’ve never felt quite this way, Dakota. The more I have you, the more I want.”

It was her turn to blush and take a step back. He was so sure of himself. It activated all of her lust, and she needed to make the call.

“Ben,” she murmured.

The words died out. What did she want?

Him. Her tigress was sure of it.

“Oh, fuck it.” She threw caution to the wind and jumped up and into his arms.

Bennett was quick on the uptake. It was to his credit that he didn’t drop her. He had the good sense of turning them around to settle her on the gleaming surface of the counter. He stood between her legs, and she put her ass to the very edge of it to make sure she could feel his erection pressing into her.

They went at each other’s mouths like they needed each other to breathe.

And they did.

They were mates.

Dakota couldn’t fight against her nature. Not anymore. She would do her job well, but she would also do her mate. It would clear her head and help her focus.

“Do you think we can have a quickie right here and right now, before we do anything else?”

Bennett smiled at her comment. “I don’t want our first time to be quick, Dakota. I want to take my time and savor every inch of your body.”

She gasped, wanting nothing more.

She grabbed his head for another kiss, and they were rocked by an explosion.

Not the good kind.

The house was under attack.

Chapter Eleven

Bennett

It was just his luck that the first time he ever got to be all brooding and confident, the world would end.

Or rather, the house would be set upon by armed men, dressed in black gear and armed to their eyeballs.

At first, when the ground under his feet began to shake, Bennett thought it
