in my arms so that her back was to my chest and dancing with her to the sound of I’m a Believer by Smash Mouth as Rocco kept the album playing and I wondered if he always listened to old music or if he liked modern stuff too. There was so damn much I didn’t know about the three men in this room, but I found I wanted to learn all of it despite the months of hiding from them.
Rocco made a show of uncovering River’s eyes and muttered something about public displays of indecency while Enzo roared with laughter.
A knock came at the door and Frankie answered it, grabbing the huge stack of pizzas and calling out for us to follow him as he carried them away. The dogs reappeared at the scent of cheese, Coco weaving between Tyson’s legs and nipping at his feet like he expected to get first dibs on any scraps. And despite the massive size difference between them, I was fairly convinced of his chances. That fluffy little thing had the heart of a warrior beating in his chest.
Frankie led us down a corridor to the other side of the apartment to the bedrooms and I began to appreciate the size of this fucking place. With so many people coming and going all day, I hadn’t had the chance to look around much but it was clear the penthouse was enormous.
He pushed open a door and we followed him in to a huge dining room with a heavy oak table big enough to seat twelve and a view through more floor length windows to the rear of the building where we could see mountains in the distance beyond the city.
Winter bit her lip as she looked out at the view and I took her hand, squeezing her fingers. She squeezed mine back and I was glad that I wasn’t the only one missing our little cabin in the woods. Not that I could fault Frankie’s luxurious apartment or even the company of my...family. There had just been something special about that place, the two of us alone, pretending that nothing else in the world even existed.
We moved to take our seats at the table as Frankie tossed pizza boxes down haphazardly and grabbed a bunch of glasses from a liquor cabinet before setting down two more expensive bottles of scotch and a bottle of orange juice.
Enzo pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and placed one between his lips, lifting a lighter half a second before Sloan snatched it out of his mouth and Rocco slapped him around the back of the head so hard he almost head butted the table.
“You’re supposed to be quitting, stronzo,” Rocco growled and Enzo cursed him before reaching out to brush his fingers through the curls on River’s hair where she lay in Sloan’s arms. I hadn’t even noticed her starting to nurse the baby, but the content little noises coming from her said she was enjoying her milk.
“I’m sorry, bambina,” Enzo said, actually looking sheepish. “I forgot my manners in my drunken state.”
Sloan snorted a laugh, pointing out the fact that he had no manners drunken state or not and Frankie confiscated the rest of the packet of cigarettes with little protest from Enzo. It was strangely endearing to see the brutish man putting the needs of his tiny niece -who I guessed was my tiny niece too actually- before his own and I decided to forgive him for riling me up about Winter. Or at least I did until his gaze shifted across the table and most definitely dropped to take in her tits for a moment.
“You look cold, baby doll,” I said to her, shrugging out of my jacket as she looked to me with a frown.
She shook her head in denial and I smirked at her as I wrapped the jacket around her anyway.
Winter’s hand landed on my thigh and my dick leapt to attention as she started painting words there almost too fast for me to catch.
I’m not cold.
“You’re practically shivering,” I said, choosing to casually ignore her declaration as I buttoned up the jacket and effectively covered her up. She still didn’t seem to be comfortable to speak in front of my brothers and I was shamelessly using that to my advantage.
With a growl of frustration, she pushed her arms through the sleeves and I gave her a smile before pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
