as the Romeros here. From the sweat on the captain’s brow, I guessed he was caught between several powerful men and didn't want to upset any of them.
Ramon moved towards me, raising his hands in innocence. "Please, my darling, come with me. I only want to take you home."
I clutched onto Nicoli. He was my home, not this stranger. I didn't want to go anywhere with him.
"It's best you let go of her now, sir," the captain spoke to Nicoli. "It's only right she speaks with her husband. She must have a whole family missing her. I'm sure Mr Hernandez will ensure your friendship with her remains intact." He said the word friendship like he was begging Nicoli to agree with that label and let me go to another man’s arms, but it wasn't going to happen.
"Sasha," Ramon begged. "It's me. Ramon. Please don't be frightened. I can help you remember everything. I'm sure Mr Romero wants what is best for you." He looked to Nicoli, his eyes imploring. "Perhaps you can come visit her soon?" he said seriously and Nicoli growled low in his throat.
"Winter has only had Nicoli to depend upon, he is all she knows," Frankie growled. "You won’t separate them. He’s what’s best for her."
"I am her family!" Ramon wheeled towards Nicoli's brothers and his bodyguards flexed their muscles. "I am what's best for her. I have hunted for my wife, I have begged the stars and the moon to return her to me. I will not have a single man keep her from me a moment longer."
Frankie looked between us all, his eyes flickering with shadows as he tried to work out a solution here.
Lovette frowned at Nicoli. "Sir, you need to let her go."
"No," Nicoli hissed immediately, backing up and pulling me with him.
"You can visit her on our terms, if she agrees," Frankie told Ramon, but he just bared his teeth at him.
“She is my wife!” he yelled again. I could see the wind changing in his favour and my stomach churned at the thought of having to go with him.
I wanted to leave with the Romeros. I wanted to go back to Frankie's apartment in the sky and curl up in bed with Nicoli. If this was what getting my memories back would cost me, then the past could keep them.
"Come on now, sir. He has a right to see his wife," an officer moved towards Nicoli, reaching for me and Nicoli lunged at him, pushing me behind him and shoving the officer back a step. Another officer leapt forward to subdue him and Nicoli threw a fist into his face, sending him crashing to the ground. Havoc broke out as more men and women dove on Nicoli, forcing him to the floor and trying to hold him down as the captain took hold of my arm, guiding me towards Ramon.
I dug my heels in and the Romeros rushed forward to intercept, but Ramon’s bodyguards formed a wall against them as I was handed to my husband. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and I shoved him away, trying to run, but strong arms grabbed me and one of the bodyguards clutched me hard against his side as he dragged me out of the station.
“When she is well again, I will ensure she gives a statement about who took her and we will hunt them to the ends of the earth,” Ramon growled, looking over to Nicoli with a sneer.
My throat was burning as I tried to get words out, kicking and pushing and tearing at the men who were taking me away from the only good thing I'd ever known.
"Nicoli!" I screamed, his name slicing its way out of my lungs as I was shoved into a car.
I turned frantically to look out of the window, finding Rocco, Frankie and Enzo racing toward the car with furious expressions. I yanked at the door handle, desperate to get out, but I was locked in. Trapped. We pulled away down the road and I slammed a palm to the glass, before thumping my fist on it and screaming from the depths of my lungs.
"It's alright, darling," Ramon promised, turning to face me from the passenger seat in the front of the car, his face a picture of worry as he ignored the way I was fighting to escape. "You're safe now."
I wasn’t in a good way. My cell mates were even worse off. Blood dripped from my knuckles and I’d thrown my
