Beautiful Pain - J.M. Walker Page 0,78
we were going to a club tonight and I was nervous that I would embarrass him.
“Yes. Definitely. Marketa,” she spun me towards her. “You are beautiful. Even more so now since being with Matteo. He’s opened up something inside of you. It’s good for you.”
“It is. I’ve never been this happy.” I got redressed, excited for the night to come. I paid for the dress, using the money Matteo had given me.
“You are going to have so much fun tonight,” Nika squealed, linking her arm through mine.
“I can’t wait.” I had no idea what the night held for me.
Nika and I continued walking around the mall, shopping, eating and spending time together. It had been too long since we did this. Hanging out at the mall like teenagers.
While we were looking at shoes, the hairs on the back of my neck tingled. No one I recognized was around. But something was off. That familiar desire I felt whenever Matteo was around, made my heart skip a beat. But I didn’t see him anywhere.
“What’s wrong?” Nika asked, picking up a pair of red strappy sandals.
“Nothing.” I frowned, looking over my shoulder.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Just a funny feeling.”
Her brows narrowed. “What kind of funny feeling?”
“Nothing bad,” I reassured her. “It’s like Matteo is watching me but I know he’s not.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because he’s working.” But I wasn’t so sure if that were true or not. Matteo was a man of many surprises, always doing the unexpected and being unpredictable.
“Maybe he’s not. Maybe he wanted to surprise you.” Her eyes lit up. “Maybe he’ll swoop in and kiss the hell out of you.”
I laughed. “Unlikely.”
“Why? It is possible,” she kissed my cheek. “I bet you I’m right,” she said, whistling while she walked away.
I had no idea what she was talking about. As exciting as it would be, Matteo wasn’t there. But the funny feeling of being watched still lingered.
“You should check out the shoe store next door,” Nika called out over her shoulder, winking at me.
Shaking my head, I rubbed my arms and did as she suggested.
When I walked past a hallway, I heard a thump. The idea of Matteo randomly showing up just to kiss me made excitement brew deep within. Would he do it? Was he the type of man to show up out of nowhere only to show his girlfriend how much he missed her and needed her?
Yes. He was that type of man.
I smiled to myself, lost in thought when suddenly, I was shoved from behind.
Mae
Warm lips crashed to mine. Rough hands, strong fingers massaged into my rear. I was pulled flush against a hard body. I could feel every single inch of my unexpected captor.
Running my fingers through the soft hair at his nape, I tugged his head back, deepening the kiss.
His scent. His taste. It jarred something in me.
A growl vibrated into my mouth only making me smile. Suddenly, I was pushed up against the wall. A heavy hand grabbed my ponytail, roughly pulling my head back. Our mouths separated. Our chests rose and fell with ragged breath.
Dark eyes smoldered, heating my skin on fire. “I’ll see you when you’re done shopping.”
I nodded, watching him.
He popped his collar, giving me a sexy smirk. The scruff on his jaw had thickened in the past couple of days, sprouting a light smattering of grey. Which in turn only made him more desirable.
And with that, Matteo left, leaving me and my anxious body alone.
Taking a deep breath, I met back up with Nika.
“You should get…” her voice trailed off. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” I said, scrubbing a shaky hand down my face.
“He was here. I knew it,” Nika shouted, fist pumping the air. “That’s why you’re all flushed and your hair’s a mess.”
“Shhh…you don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said, fighting back a smile.
“I do. I so know what I am talking about.” She smiled, her eyes taking on a dreamy look. “No matter where you are, he’ll find you and get you so worked up, you’ll jump him when you get home.”
“That’s…” Yeah, she was right.
“You know I’m right.” She waggled her eyebrows.
I only smiled.
“So I take it you like the dress?” I asked breathless as Matteo collapsed on top of me.
He grunted, brushing his nose over my nape.
“What time are we going?”
“Whenever I decide to get off of you.” His fingers curled in mine, gripping them tight.
“We will be here for a while then,” I teased, kissing him fully on the mouth.
He chuckled, placing a light
