Bang (Blast Brothers #2) - Sabrina Stark Page 0,66

she said. "But it's obviously working."

Technically, we'd started out in the pantry, but there was no way I'd be sharing that little nugget with Livia – or anyone else while I was at it.

Even Arden, she was my best friend in the whole world, but I hadn't told her a single thing about what had happened between me and Mason.

It was incredibly frustrating, too, because I would've loved to tell her everything. But she was engaged to Mason's brother, and the last thing I wanted was to get the family talking – or even worse, put Arden in the awkward position of having to lie to Brody.

And besides, I told myself, it hardly mattered. My encounter with Mason had been a one-time thing. It was over and done. Now, if I could only stop thinking about him.

To Livia, I said, "I'm not doing anything anywhere. Seriously, there's nothing between us."

She laughed. "You are such a liar."

"Oh come on. You don't know that."

"Sure, I do," she said. "I've known you since kindergarten." She leaned closer to say, "So tell me, does he fuck as good as he looks?"

I winced. "Will you please be quiet?"

"Why? Because of your no-cursing policy?"

"No," I whispered. "Because his little sister is in the kitchen."

"Oh, alright," she said, not looking too happy about it. "But seriously, let me in, okay?"

"I'm really sorry," I said yet again. "But I can't."

She sighed. "Fine. You want the truth? I'm locked out."

I glanced past her. "You mean out of the house?"

"Yes, if you must know."

"How'd that happen?"

"I'll tell you how," she said. "Those little monsters tricked me."

"But how?" I persisted.

"They told me – which was a total lie by the way – that Mason Blastoviak was in his backyard naked."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Why would they say that?"

"Because they're monsters, that's why. And just so you know, I wouldn't have done anything. I just figured I'd take a peek, you know?"

As someone who'd had more than a peek, I couldn't exactly blame her.

She gave another sigh. "And now I can't get back in."

I asked, "So…did you try the windows?"

"What?"

"The windows," I repeated. "If the doors are locked, you could always climb through a window."

She gave me a look. "Are you freaking kidding me?"

"No. I've seen it done before." I leaned around her and pointed to same window that I'd seen the other nanny use. "Try that one."

She rolled her eyes. "Gee, thanks for the help." And with that, she turned and began stalking back toward the dinghy.

From the open doorway, I watched in morbid fascination as she climbed in and used the attached paddles to navigate across the river. When she reached the opposite bank, she disembarked and yanked the dinghy back onto dry land.

When she strode to the house and tried the appropriate window, it opened just like I'd predicted. She turned around and gave me a perplexed look.

When I waved, she hesitated for only a moment before smiling and waving back. And then, she turned and crawled in through the open window.

When she slammed it shut behind her, I shut the patio door and returned to the kitchen, hoping like crazy that Willow hadn't caught any of our conversation.

But as it turned out, my hopes were in vain.

Chapter 40

Cami

Willow asked, "Is Mason really your boyfriend?"

Oh, crud. To think I'd returned from the patio over twenty minutes ago, and Willow hadn't said a single word about it. Until now.

Mostly, she'd been talking about how surprising it was to discover that a friend of mine was working as a nanny right across the river.

On this, I could totally relate.

In spite of everything, I liked Livia. And yet, she'd opened up a real can of worms by sharing personal details where Willow might overhear.

As I mentally ran through our recent conversation, I felt the blood drain from my face. Oh, my God.

What if Willow had overheard that one comment? The one about Mason fucking as good as he looked.

With growing dread, I asked, "Just how much did you overhear, anyway?"

"A lot," she said. "Your friend talks really loud."

No kidding.

Still, I summoned up a smile. "So, did you hear what she said about him being a faker?"

Willow's eyebrows furrowed. "I dunno. Maybe."

"Yeah, she said that he faked as good as he looked. I think she meant something about the TV show."

Willow eyed me across the table. "Really?"

I nodded. "Oh, yeah. Like on TV, he doesn't seem as nice as he does in person. But then, once you get to know him, he
