Bad to Be Worthy (Bad to Be Good #2) - Andrew Grey Page 0,48

turned the car around and slowly drove back toward home, checking his mirrors in case they had picked up some unwanted interest.

“What do we know?” Tucker asked.

Gerome chuckled. “Not a hell of a lot. Two boats met out on the gulf, and one returned to the key under the bridge. I don’t know if they were picking up or dropping off. Hell, they could have been bringing someone back and just met to transfer passengers. I have no idea.” He had to remind himself that he shouldn’t know too much about the last meetup he’d witnessed. He hated keeping the bundle hiding in his kitchen a secret from Tucker. That bundle was trouble personified, but it was the only solid evidence they had that something was happening.

“But we know the name of the boat. Do you think you could sneak onto that one too and have a look around?” Tucker asked.

Gerome chuckled. “Damn, I think I’m being a bad influence on you.” He smiled as they approached the apartment building. He pulled into his spot and got out of the car. “But we can probably find out where the boat is berthed and then take a look.” He would have to be careful. The anchorages on the other side of the bay were smaller, and a lot of them attached directly to businesses or restaurants. That meant it was going to be more difficult to remain anonymous. Gerome was going to need to do some recon and figure out if it was even possible to look into this further. “But then we turn it over to the police and let them take it from there.”

“Yeah. But we’re gonna find out first.” Tucker followed Gerome into the apartment. “This was really exciting.”

“Tucker. We didn’t really find out anything.” There was nothing more they could figure out tonight.

“Sure we did. We know that someone is still using the waters off the coast for drug deals, and that someone is from the area. Do you think Bobby Ramone is behind this whole thing?”

Gerome shrugged. “Maybe.” He tried to put the pieces together. It was pretty obvious that Ramone was partnering with members of the Garvic organization, which meant it was likely that drug trafficking had moved into the area, but he was hesitant to get involved. It could put all of them in jeopardy. “I think we should take everything we know and turn it over to the police. We can make a few calls and let them take it from here.”

“But….”

Gerome tugged Tucker closer and instantly wondered if it was smart. “I know you think this is a good idea, but what if something goes wrong and you or I are seen? We could be followed back here, and that could put Joshie and Cheryl in danger.” The idea to go after them was tempting. A little larceny and excitement in his life wasn’t necessarily bad. Gerome sure as hell knew how to take care of himself. But there was more to think about than just himself.

“Maybe you’re right,” Tucker agreed softly. “This isn’t some television show, and we’re not amateur sleuths.”

“Exactly. We should step back, turn over what we’ve seen to law enforcement, and let them handle it. They can investigate and figure out what’s going on.” Hopefully the people involved would be caught and put out of business, or scared off enough that they moved to a different area and left them alone. Either way, Gerome got the result he wanted. “You did great tonight,” he added with a smile, gazing deeply into Tucker’s eyes. “You thought quickly, and we got to the bridge in time.”

“Yeah, but I really wanted to jump off the bridge onto the boat, catch those guys red-handed, and….” He grinned, and Gerome smiled as well.

“You’re such a goof sometimes.” He loved that Tucker could play with him and tease him. No one really did that. Gerome intimidated a lot of people, and it was nice that Tucker didn’t feel that way.

“Come on,” Tucker said, pulling away and taking him by the hand.

“Where are we going?”

Tucker rolled his eyes. “To the bedroom.” His tone held an implied “duh,” and Gerome followed behind him. “I liked you holding me on the beach… so let’s go back to how that felt.”

Gerome tugged Tucker into his arms, holding him tightly, bringing their lips together. He might have wondered if that was what Tucker wanted, but the soft moan told him he had received the message perfectly, and there were
