against me. I feel more relaxed and in a better place than I have since I arrived in Boston. Sure, it could be in part to the great sex, but I know that’s not the real reason.

It’s because of Kyla.

She soothes my soul and makes me want to be a better person. She makes me want to make her laugh all day, just to see a smile on her face and hear her amazing giggle. She causes me to think about the future, and I’m damn sure I want her in it.

“I’m going to clean up real fast in the bathroom and get rid of the condom,” I tell her, kissing her forehead and sliding out from beneath her. She snuggles into my pillow and closes her eyes. It’s hard to leave her lying there alone, all beautiful and freshly sated, but I’m in desperate need of chucking this rubber.

When I get to the bathroom, I toss the condom into the trash and step up to the sink to wash my hands. A quick glance in the mirror confirms the grin I feel pull across my face. I can still taste her on my lips, an intoxicating flavor that already causes my cock to stir to life.

After I’ve used the bathroom, I grab a washcloth and wet it with warm water before returning to the bedroom. My eyes seek her out immediately, and I find her lying in the exact same position I left her in.

I crouch beside the bed and swipe hair from her cheek. Her beautiful hazel eyes are a bit hazy and unfocused, but she offers me a slight grin. “I brought a washcloth, if you want to clean up quick. Or you can just head to the bathroom.”

“I need to use the restroom, so I may just head in there,” she replies, sitting up beside me and tossing her legs over the edge of the bed.

I watch, awestruck, as she walks to the bathroom, her beautiful backside on full display. When she reaches the doorway, she glances back. I clear my throat and stand up. “I’m going to go heat up the food.”

“Sounds good,” she says, flipping on the bathroom light. “I think we worked up a good appetite.”

I groan, recalling exactly how we worked it up. “Plus, you’re going to need plenty of nutrients for what I have in store for you later.”

Her eyes widen and dance with delight. “I look forward to it, Cowboy.” She turns and closes the door, leaving me ready and wanting more.

It’s just before eight, and Kyla is getting ready to leave. She has a full day planned, first with helping oversee the preparations for tonight’s gala, and then with her own appointments for getting ready. Tonight’s a big night for her, but also for us. I plan to tell her everything after we return from the gala. We plan to go back to her place afterward, which will give us a private place to talk, and I’d rather her be in her own space when I drop the bomb.

I have no idea how it will go. Sure, I know how I pray it will proceed, but if I’m thinking logically, the talk could very easily go the other direction too. I just refuse to dwell on that part.

She comes out of the bedroom, wearing the clean clothes she wore yesterday and a smile on her lips. “Ready to go?” I ask, leaning against the kitchen island.

“I am. The hotel is going to start their setup in about ninety minutes, so I need to make sure I’m there. I want to run home and get cleaned up.”

“Hey,” I start, taking her in my arms, “I was thinking we could talk tonight when we get back to your place.”

She pulls back but doesn’t let go of my arms. “Is everything okay?” Worry lines spread across her forehead. I hate the thought of her fretting.

“Yep, fine. Everything’s great. Just a few things I wanted to discuss with you,” I reply, giving her a big grin. Probably too big, actually. She watches me, taking in my big cheesy—and fake—smile. I wonder if she’s going to call me out on it, but she doesn’t.

“Okay,” she replies, slightly hesitant. “I’ll see you at my place at five?”

“Nowhere else I’d rather be, angel.”

When she goes up on her tiptoes, I slide my lips across hers, savoring the feel and taste of her. It doesn’t last near as long as I’d like, especially since we’re nearing the
