Arrogant Heir (The Heirs #2) - Michelle Heard Page 0,9
looking for you,” Nate says, a broad smile plastered over his face. The guy’s not that bad, but his best friend irritates the fuck out of me.
“I’m having a party at Studio 9 next Friday and was hoping you’d come. Fallon and the girls already said they would pop in.”
Like I have much of a choice now. If the girls are going to the club, then it means Hunter, Kao, Noah, and I will definitely be there. We never let them go to that club alone because who knows when a seedy fucker will try his luck with one of them.
“Sure, I’ll make an appearance,” I grumble, not too happy about the fact.
“Thanks.” Nate looks like I’ve just made his year.
I glance at Justin, and when I see his attention is elsewhere, I follow his line of sight, and then a dark scowl shadows my features.
“Are you interested in Mila?” I ask outright.
Justin looks caught red-handed as his eyes dart to me. “Ah… yeah.”
I take a step closer to him, not caring that I’m starting to draw the attention of the students around us. “Don’t fuck with her. She’s off-limits.”
I glance over my shoulder, and seeing Hana, Jade, and Mila with Fallon, I hesitate, but then I push through and answer, “Mila’s off-limits.”
Just like I expected, a frown settles on Mila’s face. “Who are you to decide that?”
“Seriously?” I let out a bark of laughter. “Do you really need me to answer that?”
She crosses her arms over her chest and daringly lifts her chin. “Yes.”
Slowly, I saunter closer to Mila until I’m right in front of her. Looking down at her, I tilt my head, a grin tugging at the corner of my mouth. “I’d thought it was self-explanatory, babe.”
“Let’s pretend my IQ just dropped. Explain it to me,” she fucking sasses me.
I lean down slightly, and the space between us shrinks. “As the leader of this group, it’s my duty to make sure no one fucks with any of my girls.”
‘You’re lying,’ my conscience whispers. ‘It’s because you can’t stand seeing another dick anywhere near Mila.’
Mila’s eyes narrow on me, and her voice drops to a hiss, “I’m not one of your girls.”
My eyebrow darts up, and the grin widens on my face. “Keep lying to yourself, babe. We both know that’s not the truth.”
Mila’s breaths begin to speed up, and for a moment, there’s a flash of panic on her face before she darkens her glare. “You better stop this crap, Jase. People are going to start thinking you’re in love with me.”
Whoa… hold up a second.
Say what?
Mila sees the shock on my face, and her sexy as fuck mouth lifts into a smile. “Careful, Jase. Your playboy image is in danger of going up in smoke.”
She pushes past me, and I turn to watch her walk away, still dumbstruck she actually called me out in front of everyone.
“Who’s the one dreaming now?” I manage to call after her.
Mila stops and gives me a seductive look, and then she throws my words from the other day back at me, “Oh, babe, you don’t want to know what I do to you in my dreams.” She glances me up and down, then grumbles, “I’ll give you a hint… it involves me throat punching you.”
I let out a chuckle as I watch her walk toward the lecture halls.
The sass of that girl will drive me absolutely wild.
I suck in a deep breath of air, and then noticing Nate and Justin are still standing by me, I snap, “Like I said. My girls are off-limits.”
I stalk away, feeling like I’m on a high from the altercation with Mila.
Yeah, I’m definitely getting addicted to the push and pull between us.
But the real question is, does Mila feel it too?
Chapter 5
MILA
What the hell was that?
The past two days, Jase gave me a break, and things were actually good between us. Then wham, we’re back to him giving me crap.
Ugh, for a moment back there, I was worried my secret was out.
My heart is pounding a mile a minute, but I’m proud of how I reacted. I stuck to my guns and gave Jase a taste of his own medicine.
I attend two lectures before lunch, and the moment I meet up with Fallon and Jade in the restaurant, Fallon gives me a confused look. “I can’t figure out whether you and Jase are flirting or fighting.”
I shrug and mutter, “He’s flirting, and I’m fighting.”
