Arrogant Heir (The Heirs #2) - Michelle Heard Page 0,58
mouth. “You make me want to be incredible.”
Mila gets comfortable next to me and rests her head on my chest. It’s become our position in bed.
Moving my left hand to her back, I draw lazy patterns over the length of it as we watch ‘Man of Steel’, aka me.
I grin at myself.
Yeah, I’ll be her superman.
Considering what happened yesterday, we had a good night.
Mila doesn’t argue when I walk with her out of the dorm, and I take it as a win. Fallon and Jade walk with us, and when we reach their class, Fallon says, “We’ll be with Mila all day, Jase. You should get back to your own lectures.”
“Yes,” Mila instantly agrees. “I’ll be fine.” She even grins at me. “Besides, Jade can kick ass better than you.”
My eyes dart to Jade’s, and it has her nodding. “I’ll take good care of her.”
Fuck. This is hard.
Taking hold of Mila’s hand, I pull her to the side and wrap my arms around her. “Call me the second anyone gives you shit.”
She nods against my chest.
Over her head, I lock eyes with Fallon. “You let me know the instant anything happens.”
“I will,” my cousin promises.
I press my lips to Mila’s hair and take a deep breath of her.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
She begins to pull back, but I tighten my hold on her. “Just a second longer.” Mila melts back against me, and I soak in the feel of her in my arms.
It feels like I’m abandoning her.
Christ.
I take a deep breath, filling my lungs with her scent before I pull back.
Mila gives me a warm smile and standing on her tiptoes, she presses a kiss to my cheek. “I’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
I clench my teeth as I watch her walk into the class with Fallon and Jade.
For a second, I close my eyes and thrust a hand through my hair in frustration as I turn around to walk away. I only manage two steps before I spin around and jog into the class.
Just like yesterday, Mila looks up at me with surprise on her face. Leaning down, I slip my hands over her cheeks and press my mouth to hers.
But unlike yesterday, it’s not quick. I linger as I drink in the feel of her.
I fucking love you, Mila.
Letting go of her, I walk out, and I keep going until I walk into Hunter’s room.
My best friend's eyes land on me, and it’s all it takes for me to spill my guts, “I love her.”
“I know,” he murmurs as he closes the distance between us. He places his hand on my shoulder. “Did you tell Mila?”
I shake my head. “Not yet. I don’t want her thinking I’m just saying the words because of what happened.” Letting out a sigh, I walk to his bed and drop down on it. “I was so close to telling her last night.”
Hunter sits down next to me, and the silence stretches around us.
“It’s hard to leave her alone,” I whisper. “I know Jade and Fallon are with her, but goddamn, it’s fucking hard.”
“They’ll take good care of her,” Hunter reminds me.
“I know.”
It doesn’t ease the pressure in my chest. Everything inside of me is screaming to run back to her.
“Fuck, Hunter, I just want to hold her and never let go.”
Hunter places his arm around my shoulders. “You know it’s not your fault, right?”
I let out an empty burst of laughter.
Ironic, isn’t it? It’s the same conversation I had with Mila.
But I should’ve protected her.
“It’s my fault she left the club,” I mutter, the pang of regret bitter on my tongue. I suck in a deep breath of air as my guilt turns into a fist, taking blows at my heart. “I heard her scream twice before I got to her.” I close my eyes against the painful memory. “I’ll never forget the sound.” I shake my head, trying to suppress the memory of Mila’s hopelessly hollow wail.
“I’m sorry,” Hunter says as he pulls me into a hug. “I’m so fucking sorry.” After a little while, Hunter continues, “Mila’s fierce. She’s a fighter. She’ll come back from this.”
I nod. “I know she will.”
“And so will you.”
I let out a burst of air as I pull away from him. “Yeah, we’ll find our way back.”
And then, I’ll love her like she’s never been loved before.
The thought makes me square my shoulders, and getting up, I say, “We should get our assess to class.”
Hunter rises to his feet, then exclaims, “Hold up.” He slaps his hand
