Arrogant Heir (The Heirs #2) - Michelle Heard Page 0,5

“That would be a solid hell no.”

I’m such a liar.

“Ouch.” He places his hand over his heart, pretending to look wounded. “You’re so damn cold.” And then his attention turns to all of us. “I’m hungry. Wanna grab an early dinner with me?”

“Sure,” Fallon answers, and we change direction toward the restaurant.

Jade and I fall back behind Fallon and Jase, and my cousin hooks her arm through mine. “So… Justin Green?”

“That’s never happening,” I say, shaking my head.

“Don’t you think it’s weird he suddenly asked you out?”

I shrug, not caring. “Let’s change the subject. Things look good between you and Hunter.”

Jade knows I don’t open up easily, and not pushing, she smiles like a lovesick teenager. “Yeah, I still get moments where it’s surreal.”

“I’m glad you realized he’s the one for you,” I mention.

“Yeah, me too.” Then Jade wags her eyebrows at me and whispers, “How about you and Jase?”

Giving my cousin a disgruntled look, I shake my head. “That’s another solid hell no.” Just then, Jessica and her group of friends approach Jase, and I pull a face when she hugs him. “Jase will never be a one-girl kinda guy.”

Jade lets out a disappointed sigh. “Yeah, I had high hopes, but with that dream up in smoke…” she grins at me, “we should find you, someone.”

I pull my arm free from hers and shake my head hard. “No.” When she gives me a pleading look, I adamantly state, “No, Jade. I don’t want to date.”

She takes a deep breath, then concedes, “Fine. But the second you’re ready to climb into the dating pool, you better tell me. There are a couple of hot fish in the sea.”

“I’ve never liked fishing,” I joke as we walk into the restaurant.

I wait for everyone to pick a seat, and leaving a couple of chairs empty between Jase and me, I sit down and grab a menu.

“What’s everyone having?” Jade asks.

“The shrimp linguini alfredo,” Fallon answers, not even looking at the selection on the menu.

“I need some meat,” I murmur, and then I see exactly what I want. “I’ll have the filet mignon with shoestring potatoes.”

“You should’ve said something,” Jase says.

“Huh?” Setting down my menu, I give him a confused look.

“Babe, I have all the meat you’ll ever need.”

“God help me,” I groan. Slumping back in my chair, I glance at the restaurant's décor to avoid looking at Jase. “You’re so freaking full of yourself. Doesn’t it get tiring carrying that big head of yours around all day?”

Jase begins to chuckle. “You have no idea. I can hardly walk.” I try not to laugh, but the second my lips twitch, Jase lets out a bark of laughter. Then he says, “It won’t be so funny when I die of blue balls.”

Covering my eyes with my hand, I do my best to school my face into a scowl as I mutter, “I’m never going to win with you.”

JASE

A waiter takes our orders, and then I lean back in the chair and stare at Mila until she glances at me. “What did Justin Green want?”

She just shrugs. “Nothing.”

A courier carrying flowers catches my eye. He asks one of the servers something, and then he’s pointed in our direction. A frown starts to form on my forehead as he walks toward us.

“I have flowers for a Mila West?” the guy asks.

Mila’s head snaps in his direction, and surprise flashes over her face. “That’s me.”

“Could you sign here?”

My frown darkens as he places the bouquet down on the table. The thing is nothing short of half a damn garden.

“Who would send me flowers?” Mila asks as she searches for the card. Finding it, my gaze narrows on her as she reads the message.

She grimaces, and looking rueful, she says, “They’re from Justin.” Her shoulders slump, and she glances around the restaurant. Spotting Justin where he’s seated with his friends, she rises from her chair, muttering, “Now I feel bad for saying no. Ugh. I should, at least, thank him.”

My face sets into a scowl as I watch Mila walk to his table. There’s a possessive twinge in my chest when she smiles at him.

Fallon sneezes, and it yanks my attention away from Mila. Getting up, I grab hold of the arrangement and set it down on the open table next to ours.

“Thanks,” Fallon says, then she grumbles, “Why did I have to be allergic to flowers? It sucks not being able to receive any.”

My eyes find Mila as she walks back to us. She sits down and
