matter. Nodding, I say, “I’m sorry I lost my shit.”
Keeping my arm around Mila, I glance at our friends and see that Hana picked up the pizza and broken plate from the floor. “Thanks, Hana.”
“No problem.” She goes to stand by Fallon.
Noticing the worried looks on all their faces has me saying, “I’m sorry I exploded.”
My eyes meet Hunter’s, and it has him saying, “You know I’ll have your back with everything, but I won’t stand by and watch you land your ass in jail. We need you here.”
“I understand.” I smile at my friends, hoping to put them at ease, then say, “We’re going to take a nap.” Keeping Mila close to me, I steer us back to my room.
Once I have the door shut behind us, I wrap my arms around her and press a kiss to the side of her head. “Sorry for reacting like that.”
Mila shakes her head, and pulling a little back, her eyes search over my face. “But you’re okay now, right?”
I smile down at her and nod. “How about you?”
“You kinda scared me out of the panic attack I was having.” She even smiles a little, but it only makes me feel like shit. Knowing I just made that call all about me and not about her eats at my worn gut.
Mila pulls back and glances at the bed. “I’m not ready for another nap, though.”
That makes two of us, but it was the only excuse I could come up with, so I could get Mila alone in my room.
“Want to watch a movie?” I offer. Hell, I’ll do anything she wants right now.
Mila nods. “One movie to relax, and then I have to work on my assignments.”
I hold a finger up. “Give me a second.” Rushing out of my room, I go to Mila’s. I grab her laptop and school bag and jog back to her. I place the laptop on the bedside table and the bag on the floor, then point to the bed. “Get comfortable. What do you want to watch?” I walk to the entertainment system across from my bed, and grabbing the remote, I turn on the TV. “I’ve got everything from action to that sappy shit women like to watch.”
“I want sappy shit,” Mila says, and hearing her chuckle brings a smile to my face.
“As long as I get to complain about men not really doing all that shit in real life.”
“Deal.” I glance back to where Mila is sitting with her legs crossed on my bed. Her black hair shimmers, and there’s color in her cheeks. When I stare for too long, Mila asks, “Why are you staring?”
I shrug and pay attention to the TV as I go to the romance section. “Cause you’re so beautiful. Sometimes it catches me by surprise. Which one do you want to watch?” I walk to the bed, and sitting down on the mattress, I lean back against the headboard with my legs stretched out in front of me.
When Mila doesn’t answer, I glance at her and seeing her staring at me, I tease, “Are you staring at me ’cause I’m pretty too?”
Mila scrunches her nose and shrugs. “Nah, it’s because you’re not half as bad as I thought, and sometimes it catches me by surprise.”
I chuckle as I gesture at the TV. “Which movie do you want to torture me with?”
Mila grabs the remote from me and scrolls twice through the whole damn list before settling on ‘The Vow’.
She lies back against the headboard and places the remote between us. “I’m warning you, no bad-mouthing Channing Tatum, or I’ll have to throat punch you.”
Raising an eyebrow at her, I pretend to be offended. “Seriously? What do you see in that guy?”
Mila gives me a disgruntled look, and I have to say I missed seeing that expression on her face. “For one, he gives a much better strip dance than you.”
Taking hold of her arm, I pull her closer to me while I joke, “Just wait. One day I’ll blow your mind with my sexy moves.”
Mila lets out a burst of laughter and cuddles into my side. When she rests her cheek on my chest, I bring my hand to her hair and play with the strands while watching the start of the movie.
Halfway through, Mila dozes off, and I make sure she’s fast asleep before digging her phone out of my pocket. I send Justin’s number to my own phone before I block his number and delete the voice
