Alpha Siege (Omega Mates #1) - Pearl Tate Page 0,13

out of me.

I’d say a good minute passes before he finally travels down low enough that he’s beginning to open the jumpsuit I’m wearing, tearing the material apart and exposing the top of my chest. Whoever sent us here had a sick sense of humor because I’m not wearing any underwear. The fabric ripping is loud as he exposes my breasts and common sense flies out the window. I don’t really have a death wish, but I still can’t stop myself from reaching up and giving him a smack like I would any other aggressive guy.

Peering through the curtain of my hair, I suddenly realize the dark shadow and weight of the gigantic creature is gone. In front of me, the hairy creature has fallen back a step or two and is grappling with a restraint around his neck. Using both my hands, I brush the tangles out of my face and step to the right. Looking up and past him, it takes a moment to see the purple man from the cliff earlier, balancing on his back and holding each side of his makeshift strangling device.

All I can do is watch as the two dance in front of me while I stare, frozen in confusion and fear. Do I run? Do I stay?

What am I thinking? Of course I run… if I value my life. I can’t give up!

The strange creature's eyes roll back in its head. As its knees buckle and hit the ground, it falls unconscious at my feet, stirring up dust and leaves that fill my nose with more crap. Sneezing, I cover my face, trying to stop the fit my sinuses are having.

Wiping my nose on my sleeve, I manage, “Thank you,” as I watch the strange, purple man follow the creature to the ground and remove his belt from around his neck. The entire event happened so quickly, I barely register the fact that he wrapped his lower half back up and secured the material with his makeshift throttling device.

But when he pulls a large knife from his vest, turning to bend over the animal, I start to panic. Is he really going to kill it? “What’re you doing? Don’t kill it…”

My words trail off as I watch in horror as deep blue blood shoots out from the gash in the animal’s throat. My stomach rolls as I look up at the man in shock. “Was that really necessary?”

Of course, he doesn’t answer me, instead grabbing my bag in one hand and my hair and clothing just past my shoulder in the other, dragging me forward with him. Gasping, I try to keep up as he practically carries me across the forest floor. Instead of going around bushes, his long legs that are hanging out of the bottom of his skirt are the only thing I see as the spindly branches bounce back while he crashes through them.

I don’t know how far we’ve gone before he releases me, but it feels like forever. Dropping to my hands and knees, I cough and take deep breaths. My hair’s stuck to my face, obstructing my view. I think again about my trusty hair ties. What I wouldn’t do for one right now!

Just as I go to sit back and try to push my hair out of my face, I feel his substantial weight drop behind me, pinning me on all fours. His heavy breathing reminds me of the dead critter as his body lightly touches me all over. For the first time, I’m fearful for more than just my life.

One of his massive arms leaves the ground from beside my hand and reaches up to where I’ve frozen to pull my hair to the side. I can’t look at him at first, blinking my eyes furiously to rid them of the tears my panic has induced. But when he speaks, I’m pleasantly surprised that I understand him.

“Where are you from?”

My body lets out a relieved breath. “Oh, thank God! I didn’t think I was going to be able to understand you.”

Reaching up with my hand, I brush some hair out of my mouth. He loosened his grip on my neck but hasn’t released me, and our faces are only a foot apart. His strange dark eyes stare at me without blinking.

Now that I’m seeing him up close, the differences in our features are more obvious. He has a much heavier brow than a human man, making his eyes look deep set and dark in the dim
