Addie (Pack of Misfits #1) - Raven Kennedy Page 0,79

anymore. I’ll declare war on your pack and have the backing of Alpha Leader Lutzo. I’m sure that’s not the kind of attention your pack wants. The council might be tempted to look into your other activities.” Hugo gives Drag a pointed look, and the rest of the Rockhead shifters defer to him, tense and awaiting his orders.

Drag stares Hugo down and spits at his feet. “We’ll get off your land,” Drag sneers. His eyes dart over to Jetta, who’s standing off to the side. “Funny that,” he says with a tilt of his head. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that was a collar.”

Jetta tenses, but Hugo’s face gives nothing away. Addie’s hand squeezes mine tightly.

Drag studies Jetta from head to toe in a slow perusal. She doesn’t cower at all, just stands tall and meets him eye for eye.

“In fact, I seem to remember collars that looked just like that,” Drag says ominously. “I think I’ll give Troupe Delirium a call. I’m suddenly in the mood for some...entertainment.”

Jetta moves to launch herself at him, but one of the Aberrant enforcers hooks his arms under hers and manages to hold her back. Drag grins darkly. “That’s what I thought.”

Turning his head, he whistles, and he and the rest of Pack Rockhead start walking away. A couple of them scoop up a still unconscious Jordy, and a growl escapes my throat. All of us stay still and rigid, tension high in the air. It isn’t until they get in their cars and drive away that everyone seems to take a collective breath.

The enforcer finally lets Jetta go, and she thanks him with a glare and an elbow to the gut, making him curl over with an “oomph.” Poor fucker.

Drag is gonna be a problem. Especially for Jetta. But we have time, and now that I’ve seen Hugo operate, I have every confidence that he can prepare for what’s to come.

Hugo looks around at his pack. “Everyone alright?”

“Hell, yeah! We owned those Rockhead assholes!” Zoey shouts back at him. She looks over at me. “No offense.”

I chuckle. “None taken. Nice bite by the way.”

“Thank you,” she beams.

“Alpha Hugo, what took you so long to get here?” I ask, trying real fucking hard not to sound like an insolent little prick.

“Rockhead scouts,” Hugo answers. “We had to backtrack, otherwise they would’ve tipped the others off that we were coming to ambush them.”

“How much did Alpha Leader Lutzo see?” another shifter asks.

“Enough,” Hugo answers simply. “Now let’s all get back to the compound. Good work, everyone.”

The pack begins to disperse, some of the enforcers helping up the others who were injured during the fights. Herrick and Lafe have shifted back into their human forms already and are pulling on clothes from where we stashed them earlier behind one of the cars.

They toss me some clothes too, and then Herrick comes stalking toward Addie with a frown on his face. He picks up the clothes that she’d shed when she shifted, and carefully pulls her shirt over her head.

He lifts her hair out in a tender gesture and then hands over her pants. “There, mate.”

Her eyes soften at his reverent and protective tone, and she pulls on her pants and then plants a kiss on his cheek. “Thanks.”

I quickly get dressed, noticing that other shifters are doing the same, while some choose to stay in their animal forms. And it is a motley crew. Unlike most packs which are primarily three or four of the same kinds of animal, the misfits have no two alike. Just in my quick perusal, I see a moose with one antler, a mean ass looking boar, a koala, a swan, and...is that a poisonous toad?

Once Addie is settled and the three of us are surrounding her, she stops short and raises a brow at Lafe’s new shirt. It’s a white tee with the letters, WTD splayed across the chest.

“Really?” she says dryly. “WTD?”

Lafe grins and looks down at it proudly. “Yep. WTD is officially our new mate-pack slogan.”

She shakes her head. “Nope.”

“What the duck? Why not?” he demands.

She rolls her eyes and looks over at me. “You let him get shirts printed?”

I grin. “I’m pretty sure he got one in every color.”

Lafe nods enthusiastically. “Yep. I got some that say, Ducking Hell, Quack Addict, and Duck Off, too. Oh, and I also got one for you that says, I am se-duck-tive.”

Addie can’t hold back her laugh anymore. She lets loose, and the sound bounces around, wrapping
