Addie (Pack of Misfits #1) - Raven Kennedy Page 0,58
have to tell them we’re still deciding on which pack to join, and after the meeting, we’ll get the hell of there.”
“And then we go talk to Addie,” I add.
They both nod in agreement. Thank fuck. My coyote is practically yipping in excitement.
The meeting place is at a motorcycle bar in town called Rev’s. When Penn pulls up to it, we see motorcycles lining up the dirt parking lot, and I can hear rock music and laughter spill from the open door. There are two shifters standing at the entrance, acting as bouncers. We exchange one more look before getting out of the car and making our way towards the entrance.
One of the shifters wearing steel-toed boots and a wife beater spits at the ground as we walk up. “State your business.”
“We’re here to meet with Curb,” Penn saying, stopping in front of him.
I snort under my breath at his name. The bouncers both narrow their eyes on me. “Somethin’ funny?”
I open my mouth, but Herrick puts a hand against my chest to cut off my sarcastic reply. “You gonna let us in, or are we gonna have a problem?” He looks them dead in the eye, practically begging to start shit. Instead, the bouncers smirk and jerk their heads at us to go inside. “Curb’s at the bar.”
We pass the bouncers and make our way inside the dark and hazy space that smells of cigarettes, sex, pot, and booze. The place is filled with Rockhead shifters and some humans, too.
The building is all wood panelling and faded leather booths, with pool tables and a bored DJ at the back. My eyes shoot up in surprise when we pass a naked woman laying on top of a table. Her fake tits are on display and there are four guys sitting at the booth around her. They’re stacking empty beer bottles on top of her and laughing as she tries not to move. My eye ticks in disgust at the lewd words coming out of their mouths.
One of them fondles her breast while another shoves an empty beer bottle in between her lips. “Open up nice and wide, sugar,” he tells her as he pushes the bottle into her mouth. “If you’re a good girl and don’t let it fall, you can have my dick in there instead.” The other guys chuckle darkly, and my blood boils when I see her hands tremble, not in anticipation, but in fear. The scent of her distress is unmistakable. She’s a human, and the fact that they’re disrespecting any female like this, shifter or not, makes me furious.
A low growl sounds out, but to my surprise, the noise doesn’t come from me. I look over and see Penn’s face is about three shades darker. The veins in his arms are pulsing menacingly as he clutches his fists hard enough to break bones.
The guys at the booth look over and eye us. One of them takes a swig of his beer before tossing it across the bar, letting it shatter on the floor. The girl flinches. “Who the fuck are you?”
“We’re here to meet with Curb,” Herrick answers.
We’re attracting all sorts of looks, but the man lifts his chin and looks over our shoulders. “Curb! New pups are here.”
Herrick and Penn bristle but don’t say anything. I can tell they’re both about a word away from throwing some fists. One surefire way to insult us is by calling a grown ass shifter a pup. Herrick’s ears are practically steaming.
We turn around at the sound of footsteps and find Curb, the man of the hour, stalking toward us. He’s is a grizzly old fucker, with bushy gray eyebrows and tattoos spreading from his neck to his fingers. “You the ones who applied to join the pack?” he asks, looking us up and down.
Penn nods tersely.
“I’m Curb. The alpha’s third. Take a seat,” he says, indicating an empty table by the bar.
The four of us slide into chairs as a waitress immediately comes over and plops four beers in front of us. Herrick slams back half of his before I’ve even lifted my bottle.
“So, you’ve drifted this way and you’re lookin’ to join a new pack?” Curb asks.
Herrick steals a look at Penn, but it’s clear that he’s still preoccupied with the distressed naked chick on the table behind us, so Herrick takes over. “Yeah. We’re ready to settle back into a pack, and we’re looking at our options.”
