Worth It - Lisa Oliver Page 0,62
it. You did all three of those women a favor. They have been avoiding life and the changes in society for hundreds of centuries, trapped in a time warp they didn’t have the inclination to leave. You’ve slapped them in the face with life at it’s rawest, and believe me, they needed that. Hera and Demeter were amazing goddesses when people worshipped them, but they quickly lost any shred of caring for mortals or even common decency when that all faded away. They’ve turned their back on what life on earth is like for mortals. You’ve made them face a new reality.”
“I didn’t have to be so harsh. I didn’t know the things I was saying were actually going to happen to them.”
“You’re not used to using your powers. You’ll get there.” Zeus reached over and patted Paulie’s hand. “We’ll check on them, frequently. I think you’ll be surprised at what they achieve even without powers. My sisters are amazingly strong women, but they’ve spent too much time living in a bubble. Now they’re out, you’ll see. There’s a good chance they won’t want to come back here when you do allow them to.”
“And the bees? How can we be sure Persephone won’t get eaten by a bird or killed by a bear or something?”
“She can’t die.” Zeus wasn’t actually sure what might happen in that instance. “She’ll enjoy being waited on by all the worker bees. I’m sure she’ll be fine.”
“I still can’t believe all this has happened. It’s too much.” Paulie’s eyes were pleading for something, and Zeus prayed to whoever was listening he was picking up Paulie’s needs correctly.
“How about I show you my house here, and we get down to the business of me claiming you, properly this time. What do you say? Do you still want me?”
“It’s the only thing in my life I’m certain about.” Paulie reached over the table with his free hand. “Zap me, mate.”
Something Zeus was only too willing to do.
Chapter Twenty-One
Paulie had always done his best to be adaptable. Living on the streets taught him he had to be quick, or he could easily be dead. But since meeting Zeus, he’d been in realms he’d never heard of, met gods he’d barely read about, and his emotions had yo-yoed so much he thought his string had snapped.
He had to trust Zeus. There was no other option. Zeus was larger than life, but more than that, he was Paulie’s true mate – they were going to have a child together, yet another bombshell he hadn’t come to terms with yet. The urge to cling to the god, crawl inside of his skin was huge, because to Paulie, Zeus was the only thing that made any sense out of the rest of the craziness.
So, he clung, and Zeus didn’t seem to mind. In fact, if the hot kisses that were raining down on his face, his neck, and gods, so much lower were any indication, Zeus needed him just as much. We’ve been apart seven days. Maybe he’s horny, but it was so much more than that. Paulie could feel it. The speed with which his clothes disappeared, and the way Zeus seemed to have developed more arms than an octopus, rubbing and caressing over every part of his body, gave Paulie the impression this was so much more than sex.
And Paulie’s body responded. Everywhere Zeus touched him, it felt as though his skin would burst into flame. His cock was hard, that was a given, but Paulie had never felt so much sensation in the rest of his body before. All too soon the touching wasn’t enough – Paulie had to feel his mate inside of him before he… he… he didn’t know what would happen, but his ragged breathing and the way he’d spread his legs as wide as they would go was obviously hint enough for his mate.
“Powers have their uses,” Zeus rumbled, burying his nose in Paulie’s ball sack. “So many uses.”
A gasp ripped itself from Paulie’s throat as he felt Zeus’s fingers breach him hard. No pain. No dryness. Just a push against resistant muscles that gave way easily to Zeus’s digits. “Get inside. Get in me, quick.” Paulie’s heart was going to pound right out of his chest. There was an orgasm lingering – he could sense it, but the need Paulie had to be joined with his mate in the most intimate way overrode everything else.
Zeus listened, or maybe his need was just as urgent.
