“My tastes are very…unconventional,” she admitted, looking away from Liam for the first time. “You know I like to be in control. Well, I like that in all aspects of my life.”

She saw the way his eyebrows rose in the corner of her eyes, but he didn’t look disgusted, so she pushed through.

“I prefer to be the dominant partner,” she practically whispered, hating how fucking nervous she was about this. “I don’t need to be on top to accomplish this, and I don’t mind giving up the control every so often, but I’ve found it impossible to find a guy who likes that kind of thing that doesn’t drive me crazy outside the bedroom.”

Zoe winced, hating the way that sounded.

Then she forced herself to look into Liam’s eyes again. Her breath caught when she saw the silver was back.

“Please don’t take this the wrong way,” she whispered, pleading with him to understand. “But I get the feeling you wouldn’t be boring outside the bedroom.”

“What about your life?” Liam took a step toward her.

Zoe would have to be blind not to see the hunger in his eyes. “It’s fucked regardless. I guess it’s easier in the long run to have all the shit hit the fan at the same time. If this works out…” Her eyes widened when he took another step closer. “At least there’s a gold lining.”

Liam smiled at that, tilting his head as he closed the distance between them. He set his hands on the door, caging her with his huge body but she didn’t feel trapped, not with the way he angled his chin, showing her his neck.

“Don’t you mean silver lining?” he asked, closing his eyes when she reached up with trembling fingers.

Zoe gently stroked the column of his throat, marveling at just how strong he was. “Gold is more precious and valuable than silver,” she told him, leaning forward to press her lips to the hollow of his throat.

Liam made a pained sound in the back of his throat like her touch was physically hurting him.

“I’m sorry.” Zoe pulled back so she could look up into his face. “Does it hurt when I touch you?”

A loud growl rumbled between them. Liam gripped her shoulders and pressed his forehead to hers. “It is physically painful to resist you,” he confessed. “I still don’t think it’s a good idea to make this more permanent than it already is. You’d break me if you left.”

Her entire body went still as she processed those words. “So, it’s not because you don’t want me?”

“Fuck Zoe.” His fingers pressed into her so hard she knew it would leave bruises, but she let him. “I want you too much and I know you don’t want anything to do with me. How could you? Your entire life was just turned upside down.”

“Just answer one question.” She reached up and traced the pulse in his neck, feeling just how fast it was. “Would you trust me to take control? Would you let me make you feel good? I want to hear more of those noises you make so well.”

The ragged breath he let out made her want to scream she needed him so fucking bad. Slowly Liam released her arms. “I would let you do anything you wanted as long as we talked about it first.”

This time she had to close her eyes and take a breath, so she didn’t lose control. When she opened them, Liam was smirking down at her. “Your eyes are glowing, little wolf.”

Fuck why did the way he say that sound so sexy?

His thumb caressed her jaw and then her bottom lip with such aching gentleness. “Kiss me, Zoe.”

She shivered with anticipation and Zoe felt like she was going to come out of her skin. “Are you sure?”

“Do you need me to beg?” Liam leaned down so close she could feel his breath on her skin.

It took every bit of control she possessed to grip his hair instead of kiss him. “Actually, I do,” she murmured, lightly scratching his scalp.

His eyes drooped and Liam’s hooded gaze made her want to climb him like a tree. “Please Zoe, I don’t just want you to kiss me. I need you to.”

She pushed up on her tiptoes and kissed him so hard she worried she’d hurt him until Liam let out a breathless moan that only encouraged her to kiss him harder. It felt like he relinquished himself to her in that moment and
