Liam tilted his head as he studied her. “You really want to know about all of them?”

“Yes.” She pulled out two pickles and set them on her plate before closing the jar carefully. “I am the kind of person who needs to know all the information and details. It helps me.”

“Hard to be in control if you don’t know all the rules.” Liam took another bite, watching her with the kind of intensity that usually made her skin crawl, but for some reason all she felt was sweaty.

Zoe cleared her throat and cracked open the bottle of water, taking a delicate sip so she didn’t accidentally inhale it and look like a totally incapable idiot.

“Okay, well then Shane is our Second. Bonnie is his mate, and Amelia’s best friend. She was also born a human but chose the claiming bite after accepting the mate bond. She runs the publishing company with Amelia. They used to be editors in Portland before moving here, but apparently this was always their dream and thankfully it’s something they could do anywhere.”

His jaw tightened as his eyes lost focus. “Jacob was next. Sage is his mate, and she’s a waitress at the Pack Bar and Grille. Human born and she also chose the claiming bite after accepting the mate bond. Sage moved here from LA and has been recently promoted to manager to help free up Alexander. If it wasn’t for her, Jacob would be dead. Cascade came down and tried to kill him in our own territory.”

Sage. Olivia remembered that name. Noah had said Liam had cried when she’d almost died. She sighed and took a bite of pickle. There seemed to be a lot of drama which was usually something she avoided as much as possible.

There was a war between two packs, and that fact made her very uncomfortable.

“That brings us to Alexander who I already told you about. Lily grew up in a traveling circus as an acrobat and a green witch. While the Cirque de Nuit pride was in Portland, we hosted them. As the manager of pretty much everything Alexander stayed with them in the city to make sure everything went smoothly. He met Lily and the rest is history.”

A fucking traveling circus? Was this real life?

Liam chuckled and leaned on the counter, picking at his sandwich. “A traveling circus pride sounds ridiculous even to us, but they’ve held peaceful nomadic status for almost three hundred years and they’re an official sanctuary. They take in anyone who’s willing to join the pride. Their Alpha is and always was a lion shifter. He’s a pretty cool guy. I like him more than I thought I would, you know, for a cat.”

Zoe couldn’t help but laugh at that. “I’m actually a cat person.”

His grin was wide and genuine and made her breath catch. “Of course you are.”

“And me?” she asked, finishing off the last of the pickles.

“Well, you’re my mate.” Liam’s eyes twinkled and she wanted to smack him.

“No shit, dumbass. I meant tell me about the scrying thing.” Zoe watched as his smile fell and she almost felt bad, but she needed to know.

“Lily talked Noah and I into letting her scry for our mates. We both thought it was a terrible idea, but Kai felt like it was the smart thing to do. I’m kind of glad he did. If Lily hadn’t, so many humans would be dead in our territory. Granted, brand new wolves aren’t easy either, but at least they’re alive. They have a choice.” He shrugged like it didn’t matter.

Zoe was surprised that was how he saw it. “What do you mean?”

His eyes were pained and Liam grimaced. “We wouldn’t have known Cascade was hunting humans in our territory if she hadn’t seen you and Chris getting attacked.”

Interesting.

“I suppose if it saved lives, I can’t be mad at her for invading my privacy.” Zoe watched the way Liam almost dropped his sandwich at that. He was still figuring how who she was and Zoe kind of liked surprising him.

“Did she see Noah’s mate?” Zoe really wanted to ask why Olivia hadn’t been a part of this whole thing, but she figured she’d find out eventually.

“She did, but his mate is currently fine so he’s taking his time finding her while we deal with this shit with
