at that place you like on campus. We’ll duck into the bathrooms to fool around, and tonight, I’ll make you a dinner that will most likely taste like shit but you’ll reward me anyway by sitting on my face.”

“Jaxson,” she hissed. “We’re in an elementary school.”

My second reprimand of the morning but this one came with a smile. It spurred me on.

“The munchkins are in class and these parents know what I’m talking about.” I nodded at a random guy passing by. He nodded back, looking confused as he did so.

Val giggled.

“After I’ve eaten you out to both our satisfaction, you’ll suck my cock like a lollipop,” I whispered. “You don’t know how cute you look with a drop of cum right”—I kissed the corner of her mouth—“here.”

Chewing her lip, Val’s cheeks brightened for another reason. It amazed me that in spite of the freaky shit she’s gotten up to with the four of us, the sweet innocence that drew me to her when we first met hadn’t faded.

“Lollipops and eating out,” she said. “I think you’re just hungry.”

“Starved actually. I haven’t eaten since lunch yesterday.”

Val’s smile reached inside of me and flicked the lights on. My blood thrummed in her proximity. I was awake. Alert. Alive.

“Let’s get breakfast. My first class isn’t until ten.” She lifted my arm and burrowed beneath. “I’ve been dying to spend time with you, baby.”

“Me too. You have no idea.”

Jaxson kept his promise and rode with us to the campus. The five of us parted ways at the quad.

“I’m meeting up with Austin in the student union,” said Ezra.

“My macroeconomics class starts in ten minutes,” Ryder said.

Maverick kissed my cheek. “I’m joining the robotics team this year. I’m going to swing by the advisor’s office and get more info about it.”

“And then there were two,” said Jaxson.

Burying my nose in his chest, I breathed in that intoxicating spicy-sweet scent. Now that we lived together, I knew the aroma came from an imported French cologne with black pepper, vanilla, and cinnamon undertones.

“What are you in the mood for?” I tilted back and brushed my lips along his stubbly cheek. “There’s a yummy bagel place that has chocolate chip muffins and good coffee.”

“Sounds good.”

Jaxson and I strolled hand in hand across campus, talking about nothing and everything.

“How’s Sofia?”

“She’s good,” I replied. “Her dad is back on his feet and working again. They hired someone to manage the overseas business though.”

“Is she loving the family time as much as she thought?”

I laughed. “She is. They went to England to visit her grandmother over the summer and had a blast. She and Madeline have even made weekly nail appointments a thing.”

“Good for her.”

Snaking my arm around his waist, I pulled him closer. “What about you, my love? How’s your dad?”

“I don’t think I should say...” he returned. “You get weird about my dad.”

I made a choked noise. “I do not.”

“Don’t think I forgot you wanted to be my stepmother.”

“That was years ago. I’ve done too many naughty things with you now for it not to be awkward.”

“Is that the only reason?”

I poked his side. “There’s also the tiny fact that I love you.”

“There is that.” I picked up a trace of teasing. “In that case, I can tell you he just started dating someone.”

I stopped dead. “He is? Who?”

“See,” Jaxson cried. “You get weird.”

I saved my reaction by capturing his lips. In the middle of the walkway, people streaming around, I nibbled his bottom lip and opened him up to a fierce, tongue-tangling kiss that made hooking up in the bathroom ten times more appealing.

“Are you sure you can’t miss class?” he asked.

Boy was it tempting. “Not on the first day. Even if we did, I’d have to come back to campus. We have a mandatory meeting at the Sally house.”

“You should’ve—”

“I know.” I sighed. “I should have dropped out. I still have friends in that house, Jaxson, and people—actual human beings with families and lives—were kidnapped. I have a chance to find out what’s going on with Leighton, Paisley, and Reagan out of the way. I’m taking it.”

“Then I’m coming with you. We’re spending the day together, I’ll finally get another peek inside this haunted house of horrors.”

The two of us got breakfast and then went to my first class, Social Psychology. I let Jaxson join me inside, wanting to soak up as much quality time with him as possible. This was quickly revealed to be a mistake.

We grabbed seats in the front row, all the way
