Raphek allowed it to sink back into his chest. “That’s why courtships and mating bonds are so very sacred to my people. I will literally be giving you a piece of my soul should we decide to mate. You would share my lifespan as well because of that sacred connection.”
Amber stared at him, suddenly so overwhelmed by what she was hearing that she didn’t know what to say or even what she should be feeling. Raphek smiled and curled an arm around her again, urging her to lay across his chest again, which she did almost in a daze. He kissed the top of her head and then resumed running his fingers through her hair.
“Raph…”
“I know,” he said, kissing her head again. “We are still very early into our courting, and that was a topic for another day far down the line. Matty must also play a very integral part to that discussion. We’ll revisit it when you feel that day has come. For now, rest a bit, sleep, and when you wake, I’ll begin my worship of your body, beginning with my mouth.”
Amber shivered. “And after your mouth has had its fill of my body, then—maybe I can taste yours?”
She reached a hand down and circled his member with her fingers, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Red fire flashed in his eyes.
“Most definitely.”
EPILOGUE
“…and to the person who released an unaltered video over social media of the dragon saving my life and my son’s life on that terrible day, words aren’t enough to thank you. It sickened me when I saw how all the ani-dragon groups were spreading the lie of the first, heavily doctored video of us that popped up. That Senator Johnson was also trying to use that doctored video as proof that the Draknos were to blame for my ex-husband’s crimes against me and our son sickened me. I’m sure everyone saw that particular damning video of Garrett when it leaked. Garrett Johnson was enough of a recognizable type of monster—and unfortunately, a common one in human society—without anyone having to explain his behavior away with an absurd conspiracy theory about the Draknos messing with men’s minds so they can steal their women and children. That said, because my son and I are still being used to further the agendas of those hate groups even after that first video was thoroughly debunked is why I agreed to this interview…”
“Ugh, please stop watching that, Raph,” Amber moaned as she walked into the main room of their home. “You’ve only been home from patrolling for thirty minutes, tops!”
“But I love how your eyes were so fierce as you defended me,” Raphek said with a completely serious look.
“It’s embarrassing is what it is,” she insisted as she plopped herself down on the couch so she could snuggle next to him. “I only did that stupid interview so that we could wash our hands of Garrett and his damn father for good. Frankly, I’m shocked that the masses sided with us.”
“The president being on our side was a big part of that,” Raphek said pointedly.
Amber snorted. “That’s only because King Dagon ripped her a new one about how she was allowing Senator Johnson and his ilk to slander the Draknos day after day without consequence—and you’re still watching!”
“Fine. For you,” Raphek said, pausing the video and then pressing a soft kiss to her lips that immediately heated her blood. “How are your Draknar lessons going?”
Amber made a face. “Can you believe that Matty can speak it better than me?”
Raphek laughed. “Children simply absorb things better. That’s all.”
“Matty also plays practically every day with Sabon, so I’m sure they’re both picking up each other’s language faster because of it.”
“Is that where he is now?”
Amber nodded. “He should be home any minute now since it’s almost dinnertime.”
“He’s just excited that he’ll ‘be able to talk like a dragon to grandma and grandpa’ when your parents visit in a couple of weeks.”
Amber laughed. “He said that?”
“He also said that he wanted us to get a mog to show your parents, too,” Raphek warned.
Amber winced. “He’s not going to give up, is he?”
“Considering how much he loves Jaws and his friend has two…”
“Dammit. My parents are nervous enough coming to a place with nothing but dragon-shifters as it is. Imagine having to deal with the lovechild of Dolly and Jaws wanting a lot of petting.”
“Who’s Dolly?”
Before Amber could answer, the front door swung open, and Matty practically came flying into the room. Amber barely moved the tablet out of Raphek’s lap in time before Matty all but tackled him. “Daddy! Sabby’s mog is gonna have babies! He said I can have one!”
Amber froze. Did Matty just call Raphek…
She suddenly didn’t care that Sabon’s mother was there to witness. She promptly burst into tears of joy.
And now there was no way Matty wasn’t going to get a baby mog.
…and maybe a baby sister or brother.
