Waiting on a Cowboy - Jennifer Ryan Page 0,76

to fix it up. Add on a couple more rooms and stuff to make it ours.”

She couldn’t believe she’d ever doubted Tate’s sudden change in feelings for her. Or his commitment to her. He loved her. All the way. All in. “I’ll put my place up for sale. It shouldn’t take long to find a buyer. We can use the money to redo the cabin.”

He shook his head. “I can’t let you do that.”

“Why? It’s going to be our house, right?”

“Yes, but . . .” He didn’t finish that sentence.

“If it’s ours, then the money I get from the sale of my place is ours, too, right?”

“I want to take care of you.”

“You do, Tate. In so many ways. But a relationship is a partnership. Maybe it’s not always even, but both people have to contribute so that it feels fair and balanced to both people. I want to do this. In fact, I’ve often thought of how we could turn that place into our place.”

One eyebrow shot up. “You have?”

“Daydreamed about a life with you? Yes. All the time.”

He sank his fingers deep into her hair. “This might be new to me, but I can’t see my future without you in it anymore. All I think about is you and me and the life we’ll have together.”

She met him halfway for the kiss they both craved.

The shower down the hall went on.

Tate tore his lips from hers and swore. “I was supposed to have the horses fed and the stalls cleaned before Declan went down to make breakfast.” He tried to set her aside and roll out from under her, but she put her hand to his chest.

“I’ll go start on the horses. You grab a cup of coffee and take a shower.”

Tate shook his head all through that. “I’ll take care of it.”

“You take care of too much. Let me do this. I’m more than capable of shoveling shit and feeding the horses.”

Tate laughed. “I could use a hot shower.” He squirmed beneath her.

She helped ease the pain in his back by sliding off him and out of bed to grab her clothes. “Take your time. Bring me some coffee when you’re done.” She wiggled on her panties and jeans and found her bra in the corner of the room where Tate tossed it last night.

“I just want to lie here and watch you get dressed.” His mischievous grin made her smile with him. “Though I prefer it when you strip.”

“Later, cowboy. I’ve got horses waiting on me.” She hooked the bra in place and pulled on Tate’s T-shirt from yesterday. It smelled like him. And so did she after she’d spent the night snuggled up to him and they’d made love.

She quickly put on a clean pair of socks and found her pair of worn boots next to the dresser. She turned to kiss Tate and found him still smiling at her, adorably rumpled along with their bed. “God, you’re gorgeous.” She took in every rippling muscle and the sheet barely covering his hips and legs. Centerfold worthy. “I can’t believe I’m moving in with you.”

“I can’t believe it took me so damn long to ask you.”

“It’s only been a couple weeks.”

“You know what I mean.”

“We have the rest of our lives together now.” She leaned down and kissed him. The same zing of lust ran through her along with that other thing that always made her heart glow so warm and bright in her chest she expected it to burst free. Instead, it filled her up with so much love she felt lucky to have found something so wondrous.

“Watch out for Mugsy. He likes to nip to get your attention.”

“Maybe I should do that to you.” She leaned down and softly bit his chest.

He hissed, but it was pure pleasure, not pain. “You have my full attention anytime you’re near.”

She pressed down on her hands, kissed the spot she’d nipped, then stood and headed for the door. “Don’t keep me waiting on that coffee, cowboy.”

“You waited on me long enough.”

She stopped in the open doorway and turned back to him, her gaze taking in his toned, bronzed body and the smile that was just for her. “Totally worth the wait.”

“I’m going to marry you, you know?” That cocky grin made her laugh, but the words took her back to kindergarten and lunch on the playground when she’d announced her intention to marry him.

“I told you, you would.” With that, she left him with the biggest smile
