if I was constantly worried about her fucking freezing to death.
“We can’t ruin the fun,” I admonished, “it won’t be a surprise then.”
She scowled, her dark eyes narrowing, “Who said I even liked surprise--”
As the car rolled to a stop Colette’s voice cut off. Her eyes widened, my gaze following hers to where our surprise awaited her. I couldn’t help but smile. My brothers and I had seen it yesterday evening, but it was nothing compared to how it looked today in the daylight. Everything had managed to come together.
My little sister was standing outside of the building waiting for us holding a key. By her stiff back, I could tell she was doing her best to ignore the squad cars across the street.
The building in front of us stood proudly, no longer the dusty abandoned space it had been this previous weekend. The space, untouched since its original closing, had been a slight eyesore compared to the cozy library next door. Now though? After a few days of on-site work courtesy of a contracting team we hired, it looked ready for opening day.
The entire outside of the space had been outfitted with new window glass… that may or may not have been bullet proof and super strong because we were paranoid fuckers. Curtains hung, parted, and on the inside, a light purple shade that matched the outside awning. The words ‘Delicate Dancers’ in a cursive font, chosen by Lena, on the awning over the barista tables that would serve as a suitable waiting spot for parents.
I hoped that the emotions she was feeling were positive but I also knew she had spent so long trying to keep her emotions underwrap that it was probably hard for her to fully express them.
She climbed out of the vehicle immediately, my sister tugging her into a hug without a word, causing my mate to smile slightly before Lena walked towards her car. I shook my head as each cop’s gaze followed her, leaving the four of us in front of the ballet studio.
“Did someone buy it?” she asked quietly, her eyes sad in realization as the three of us joined her.
My hand automatically found its way into her hair, messaging the back of her head, as she leaned back into me for comfort. I loved that her body reacted to mine so naturally, honestly, it made all of this mating stuff ten times more real.
Growing up, I had always thought the concept of having a mate was a bit odd. Well, at least until I met Colette. As a shifter, we are raised believing that we are waiting for that singular person that is literally brought to us by fate itself. A person that is going to change our lives and possibly our brothers', in my case, lives as well. It was something we had always known was a possibility, but I don’t think any of us had actually considered what that connection would feel like.
I hadn’t expected the instant attraction. The possessiveness paired with affection, lust, love, and a seemingly impossibility comfortability for a stranger. Yet, that was exactly how I felt towards Colette. While I couldn’t say I loved her, or shit maybe I did... all I knew is that I knew I would love her one day. That sounded fucking sappy to me, but the thoughts wouldn’t stop roaming around my head, demanding attention.
My soul recognized hers and I would without a doubt do anything for her. I would give my life for her and that wasn’t something I’d ever thought before. We didn’t know each other well and it was inevitable that we'd run into problems like any couple, but I knew that we had an entire lifetime and then some to learn every single thing about our mate. It was something that I was finding myself ridiculously excited about.
I decided at that moment I wouldn’t hold back anymore and I wrapped an arm around her waist so that she leaned back into me fully, her pulse relaxed but her skin breaking out into shivers. I could tell she had no idea what to think about being here but I figured I would answer her question.
“Yes someone bought it,” I answered mentally as Luca offered me a look.
Her shoulders sagged slightly.
Ah shit. Well, I hadn’t meant to make her sad, it was true someone had fucking bought it…
Hunter offered me a pointed look and opened the door, leading us into the large room. The smell of newly laid
