UnHinge Me (Savage Beast MC #6) - Hayley Faiman Page 0,93
sound from my jeans and grunt as I realize it’s my phone ringing. Reaching down to the floor, I pick them up and search the pockets until I take out the device. Sliding my thumb across the screen, I hold it to my ear.
“Mountain.”
“Got a fuckin’ problem, brother,” Dragon growls.
“Listen, man,” I grunt. “Don’t ruin my mood. I just got my woman back.”
There’s a moment of silence, Dragon chuckles, but I can tell he’s about to ruin my fucking mood anyway.
“Your guy in TJ? His shit’s not here.”
My stomach twists. Fuck. I wonder if it has to do with his bitch who brought the shit last time and blew me. I wonder a helluva lot of things. Fuck. The door opens and Leighton walks in, her lips turning down into a frown at the sight of me on the phone.
“I’ll call him right now, find out what the ETA is,” I grunt.
“Call me.”
Dragon ends the conversation and I’m glad for it. Honest to shit, I didn’t want to talk to him anyway. Leighton drops her robe on the floor, then crawls onto the bed next to me. She stretches out beside me. Gathering her in my arms, I scroll through my numbers until I find his name.
“Gotta make a call,” I murmur.
“Need me to leave?” she asks.
I grunt, tugging on the back of her hair gently. She tilts her head back, her eyes looking into mine, her lips turning up into a grin. “Nah, babe. You stay right here, where you belong.”
She can’t hide her smile, though I’m not sure she even tries. Touching the contact, I bring the phone to my ear, my gaze never leaving hers.
“We got a problem?” I ask as soon as he picks up the phone.
“You fucked with my sister,” he barks. “The deal is off.”
I throw back my head, my body shaking with laughter. He grunts on the other end of the line, but I ignore his feigned anger.
“Your sister got on her knees for me, didn’t know her name, didn’t know she was your sister. My woman didn’t like that shit, so your sister got the boot.”
I can feel Leighton stiffening beside me, my arms tighten around her, holding her closer. “That’s not the way she tells it,” he mutters.
“That’s the way of it, hombre. Now, that shit is late. How are you going to rectify it?”
“Said what I said, meant it. Deal’s off.”
Anger fills my entire body. My blood starts to boil and I decide that there is no fucking way I can accept his response. This will be the last time that I use him, but I will not end out this day without any product.
“Message received,” I snarl before I end the call. “Fuck,” I shout.
“Wilder?”
Dipping my chin, I look into her eyes. “I gotta head outta town again for a little while.”
Her lips form a straight line and I almost smile. Shaking my head once, I lean forward and touch my lips to her forehead. “This is business and only business. Nothing else.”
“It’s too soon,” she whispers.
“I know,” I admit.
We’re both silent for a moment, for a long moment, until I break that silence. “I can make you a promise,” I murmur.
“A promise?”
I hum. “You’re it for me, babe. I’ll come back to you. There is only you.”
She’s quiet again, sucking her lips in, she bites on the corner of her bottom lip as she watches me. “Will you be sleeping with anyone else?”
I snort. “No, Leighton. I won’t. When I say there’s only you, I mean that.”
“For now,” she whispers.
It hangs between us. I don’t clarify one single bit, because she’s right. For now, is very much what I meant. But isn’t that the way of every relationship? For now, until something changes, until someone changes? As humans, we don’t stay the same, we’re forever changing and I assume that relationships do as well.
Considering my entire family has left me in some way, shape, or form, I know that nothing is forever, not even blood. So, I can’t promise her or anyone else forever—that wouldn’t be fucking fair.
LEIGHTON
He’s not telling me something. I pack my small bag and wonder if I’m making the right decision by going back with him. I should stay here with Ana, work for the Sinister Skulls, save money and then fucking run.
But when he looks at me, looks at my belly with awe. When he said we were his, even if the baby really wasn’t, she still was. That sealed the deal for
