Taking my things inside, I’m not sure which room is mine, so I just make my way into Mountain’s childhood bedroom. I hear him moving around in the living room, but don’t bother going out there.
Instead, I take all the tags off of my clothes and fold up everything into piles on the bed, with zero idea as to where I’m supposed to put them. Turning around, I decide to unload my toiletries into the bathroom.
Choosing the bathroom in the hall, I hold my breath as I start to open up cabinets and drawers. Thankfully, the entire bathroom is empty. It doesn’t take me long to put my things away and organize them as best as I can.
By the time I’m finished, there aren’t any more noises coming from the living room. “You doin’ okay?” Mountain asks from behind me.
Without even turning my head, I lift my eyes to the mirror and catch his in the reflection. He’s not wearing his vest, just his tight t-shirt and perfectly fitted jeans as he leans against the jamb of the door.
“I don’t know where to put my clothes,” I admit, keeping my voice soft.
He tilts his head to the side. “You talkin’ to me again?” he asks.
“Was I not?”
His gaze searches mine, and I feel as if he can read my mind. I wasn’t talking to him, though I doubt it’s for the same reason he thinks. Turning around, I reach behind me and grab ahold of the edge of the vanity.
“Babe. You haven’t said a word to me since we checked out at the store. It’s been over two hours since I even heard that voice of yours.”
I shrug a shoulder, pressing my lips together. I’m not sure what to say, I just know that the person I am is going to greatly disappoint him. I am not a rich bitch. I haven’t even always had a roof over my head the past five years, let alone designer clothes and things.
We watch one another for a long, quiet moment. I expect him to turn away and walk off, but he doesn’t. Once again, he surprises me. Releasing my lip, I attempt to push him away. He doesn’t budge. His chin is dipped as he looks down at me, expectantly, waiting, watching. “I don’t know,” I finally admit.
“You don’t know?” he asks, his voice soft as he slides his hand up my waist, stopping at the side of my breast.
