Their Forever - Chloe Kent Page 0,38
died there before her father remarried Maggie and had four more children with her. She remembered her childhood, always enshrouded in fear that her father could die at the hands of his boss at any moment, that her mother could be taken by Nunzio and never be the same again.
Nunzio was going to take Olivia as his prized possession, one he could show off. And when he got bored with her, he'd promised he would keep her drugged up for his men's entertainment, an incentive to keep them working for him.
She stifled her fear and anger. Liam had rescued her. He had saved her and gave her a new life. And her family, too, and currently they were all vacationing in Hawaii, thanks to Liam. They were safe and out of the clutches of doom.
Getting herself together, she concentrated on what she had to do. She knew Bethy would be alone. Glenn, the man who now owned and abused her, was Nunzio's right-hand man; he was never home during the day on any given day.
Picking up a stone, she threw it against the back door of the unit, her heart lurching as she noticed the baby clothes hanging from a line in the yard. She had to make sure she gave Bethy and her baby a better chance at life.
Bethy opened the door and peered outside, her baby in her arms, and even from where Olivia hid, she could see the sheer terror in her eyes.
“Bethy,” she whispered but loud enough that her friend could hear her.
She recognized her instantly, and after looking around to make sure no one else was around, she opened the door. Olivia and Kade stealthily entered the tiny abode that had almost no ventilation.
Bethy hugged her tightly while still holding her baby. She had never expected her friend to look so drained. She was two years older than Olivia, but she looked haggard and beaten down, and the sadness around her eyes broke Olivia's heart.
“I knew you would help me,” Bethy cried. “Thank you, thank you.” She then peeked at Kade. “Olivia? Who is he?” Bethy asked, stepping back and away from her. She didn't trust any man.
“I trust him,” Olivia said forcefully, holding on to her arms as the sheer terror that Nunzio would find out about her attempted escape swept her face. That she wouldn't be as lucky as Olivia had been when Liam rescued her. Tears shone from her eyes.
“Go. Right now. Out the front,” Kade said, peering out the window. He seemed a different man from the one she had associated with stellar nonchalance and casualness. It worried her that she noticed the tenseness in his shoulders, such an inconspicuous detail she had no business observing, yet she did with an intimacy she thought she had only shared with Liam.
“I have to take a few things,” Bethy said, her voice watery with fear and tears.
“No time, someone is coming.”
Bethy rushed to the window.
“Oh my God, it's Glenn. What is he doing here this time of the day? He's going to kill me. He's going to kill you,” she said, backing away, cradling her baby. “Olivia, if he finds you here, he'll take you back to Nunzio. Leave. This was a stupid thing.”
“Get her out of here, right now,” Kade ordered Olivia directly. Her eyes widened in fear and she hesitated. “Now!” Kade said, raising his voice. He took her by the arm and shoved her toward the front door just as Olivia pulled on Bethy.
“Well, well, well, what have we here? Who the fuck are you?” Glenn asked Kade, his gun already drawn.
“No one you know,” Kade said and with the speed of a cobra, closed the distance between him and Glenn, divested the man of his gun before he could blink, and slammed the butt of the weapon into his throat.
“Get them the fuck out of here,” Kade roared at her again as they stood stunned by what was happening, as Glenn, a giant in proportion to any man, rose from his throat punch ready to commit murder. She knew that tone by now. Obedience immediately. Questions later.
She stalled for precious moments, then looked at Bethy.
“Olivia, if Nunzio finds you here…”
Bethy grabbed Olivia's hand and dragged her along. With her senses kicked back into gear, she took charge again. She had to get Bethy off the compound to the safety of the car.
With her legs trembling, as they hurried through the compound to the vineyards, all she could think of
