Taze (Rise of the Pride #11) - Theresa Hissong Page 0,73

the night came a few hours later, and his mate fell asleep cuddled against his side. He closed his eyes and said a silent prayer to the gods that Malaki would actually come back like he’d promised her, because if he didn’t, she wouldn’t take it very well.

By morning, they’d cleaned themselves up enough to join his parents for breakfast. His mother had hugged Calla the second they walked in the door. Taze watched as they laughed and bonded over her inability to cook.

“I like her, son,” his father grunted. Taze chuckled at his old man. He’d always been like that, and Taze was sure he got his outgoing nature from his mother. “You did good.”

“I think I did, too.” He smiled as his mate came around the corner. He prayed he’d always have that flutter in the pit of his stomach whenever he laid eyes on her, and although she was dealing with her past, he knew they still had a lot of growing to do.

It didn’t matter to him how long it took, because he loved her deeply. He’d protect her with his life and teach her more ways to protect herself should the day come when he wasn’t there to do it.

“Are you ready to eat?” she asked as she came to his side.

“Yes,” he said as he dropped his head to kiss her lips. “Let’s spend a little time with them and head home. I haven’t had enough time alone with you.”

“I’d like that, Taze,” she blushed as she lowered her voice. He glanced over her head, seeing his mother standing by the kitchen table. The spark in her mother’s eyes told him she felt the same as his father did. “How about we spar later today?”

“Yeah, I need a rematch,” he growled. “I have a lot of ideas on some ground work we could do.”

“Oh yeah?” she flirted.

“Yeah,” he nodded as he turned her toward the kitchen. “I do, love…I do.”

Epilogue

Storm searched from dusk to dawn for the human female, Amaya. No matter where he looked, no matter how many Gadaí they captured…none of them knew where she was located. He’d been running on no sleep since she’d been taken.

His panther was on edge. She’d never even said a word to him, but he already knew she was his mate. The scent she carried was stuck in his head, and he’d programmed it into his mind, knowing his panther would be able to find her anywhere.

But they couldn’t lock on her scent. She had just…vanished.

His only fear was that they’d already changed her into a wolf. They didn’t have any sedative to give her, and the thought of Amaya being in pain sent his beast into a feral rage.

The Guardians were forming a plan to finally take down Agent Murdock and expose him to the FBI as being something he wasn’t. Knowing they’d had a wolf right under their noses the entire time just pissed him off to no end.

He pulled up the social media site the humans used and searched for her profile. Amaya Bradley, born November 2, 1990, lives in Olive Branch, MS, from Baton Rouge, LA, divorced. The divorced status made his eyes flash amber sparks. Another male had claimed her as his mate. As far as Storm was concerned, the male had better be long gone or he’d kill him.

She hadn’t posted much over the last few years. A few shots of her at a family reunion two years prior were listed under her name. The image she used was from what looked like a professional photographer.

She appeared younger in the photo, but not by much. Her reddish-brown hair was pulled back into a bun at the back of her head, but her long bangs swept off to one side, barely covering the rounded tops to her cheeks. The ivory skin of her neck dropped between her bountiful breasts in a black v-neck dress.

Storm growled low in his throat as he searched other photos and saw she was snuggled up with a tall, lanky male. That human had no strength to protect a fly. Was that her ex-husband?

A text from the alpha had him closing the browser on his phone. He’d head back out after the meeting to hunt for the female. He didn’t trust anyone else to thoroughly pick through the scents of every Gadaí they encountered.

As soon as he walked in the office, his leader was in a rage. His eyes were glowing amber, and his canines were so thick in his mouth, they were poking into his bottom lip.

“Everyone keep quiet,” Talon bellowed. “I have news, and it’s not what we wanted to hear.”

Talon narrowed his eyes on each and every Guardian and Protector present. He picked up a file folder and cursed before slamming it down on his desk. Agent Tabor didn’t look like he was happy about the information they had to share, either.

“As of last night, Agent Murdock has gone missing,” Talon announced. Storm’s panther pushed at his skin, and he bit his tongue to keep from roaring. “The FBI has proof of him meeting with a known associate of Axlam Amburo at the airport, putting a briefcase next to a trash can outside the newsstand where Agent Murdock just so happened to be shopping. The images show Murdock picking up the case and leaving the building.”

“We got a warrant to go after him, but we think he was tipped off,” Agent Tabor cursed. “By the time we got to his house, he was gone and so was Magan Axlam. The house was wiped clean. No furniture, no drugs, no evidence of him even residing there.”

“So, we are going to enact shifter law,” Talon advised, casting his eyes toward the agent. On Tabor’s nod, the alpha finished the meeting. “From this moment on, if you find Agent Murdock, bring him to me.”
