about him I didn’t know, but I was certain of how he made me feel. “And what if I think you’re the right guy?”

“I’m not.” With a look of regret in his eyes, he said, “I’m too damn old, livin’ a life that isn’t meant for a woman like you, and—”

“Beckett, I’m not asking you to put a ring on my finger.” I stood up, reached for the hem of my t-shirt, and quickly pulled it over my head. His eyes skirted over me as I tossed it over my shoulder and said, “I’m just asking you to join me in the bedroom.”

I knew it was a bold move and there was a chance he might turn me down, but for another night with him, I was willing to take a chance. I gave him a wink as I walked past him and started down the hall. Moments later, I heard his stool scrape against the tile floor as he stood up and followed me into the bedroom. When he got to the doorway, he stopped, and just stood there staring at me like he was thinking about his next move. His brows furrowed as he said, “Not sure this is a good idea.”

“And why not?”

“It’ll complicate things.”

“They’re already complicated, Beckett.” I shrugged with a smile. “Don’t see why we can’t complicate them a little bit more.”

“Look, I, ah … I don’t know about this.” He seemed so torn as he said, “I’m not gonna lie. Last night was incredible, really fucking incredible, but this is entering dangerous territory. As much as I want to be with you again, I don’t want to do something that might end up hurting you ... or me for that matter.”

“Well, let’s just be open and honest about things. That way neither of us will get hurt.” I walked over to him. “I meant what I said last night. I didn’t know sex could be like that. I really didn’t. After what happened with Lucas, I’ve always been too scared to try, but when I was with you, something in me changed. You made me see what I was missing by letting my fears get in the way.”

“You said you didn’t want me to put a ring on your finger, so does that mean you want to keep this thing between us simple ... just friends or whatever.”

“Yes, we’ll just be friends.” I reached behind me and unclasped my bra. As it fell to the floor, I gave him a sexy smile and said, “Friends with benefits.”

Without any further hesitation, Beckett reached for me, pulling me close as his mouth found mine. An eager moan echoed through the room when his tongue brushed against mine. With just a simple kiss, he sent a surge of heat coursing through my body, burning me to my very core.

Needing more, I reached for his t-shirt, but he grabbed it and quickly pulled it over his head. My eyes drifted down to the colorful ink that marked his chest and I couldn’t stop myself from reaching out to touch him. He watched silently as I ran the tip of my finger along the intricate lines of his tattoos. His voice was low and strained as he asked, “Like what you see?”

“Mm-hmm ... very much.” I looked up, and when my eyes met his, I whispered, “You’re beautiful.”

“Never been called that,” he scoffed. “But I gotta say ... I like it coming from you.”

His hands reached for the back of my neck while his fingers tangled tightly in my hair as he took a step forward, pinning me against the wall. He lowered his mouth to mine, kissing me long and hard. My hips instinctively rocked against him, and my heart started to race when I felt him thicken against me. My desire for this man was running rampant through me, and I was losing what little control I had over my body. Any inhibitions I might have had completely washed away when he took my bare breasts in his hands, holding them firmly while brushing his calloused thumbs across the sensitive flesh. I loved the feel of his hands on my body—every touch had me longing for more.

It was at that moment a thought crossed my mind. I’d never actually touched a man, never held a cock in my hand or given a blow job. While I was too nervous to go that far, I at least wanted to feel him. I lowered my hands to his waist,
