The Satyr - Tiana Laveen Page 0,161
pillow, half listening to the program, yet unable to completely take his eyes off her as she quickly drifted off to sleep.
I went from being shocked, to feeling anxious about this pregnancy, to elation all within one day. When Yasmine first told me she was pregnant, both of us didn’t seem to know what to say. Neither of us expected this. However, we should have. I kept telling myself for years before I even met my wife that I was going to get a vasectomy, but I never did. I’m not really certain why, but maybe deep down, subconsciously, I never wanted the option of having children completely off the table. Yasmine was diligent about her birth control, but then she had a cold one time for a few days, and she was taking other medication, so she forgot to take her pill. Just our luck, she was ovulating. We make love practically every day… usually multiple times a day. I mean, what are the chances of the few days she missed during her window of conception lining up like that? But it happened… and it just proves to me that this was meant to be. Now, I can’t stop thinking about my son who is about to come into the world. Both of our families are so damn excited. It’s amazing…We’ve got his room set up and painted, plenty of bottles, clothes and diapers and we both have been reading books and doing everything we can to prepare for this tiny person that we created, to enter our lives.
We promised each other that no matter how hard it gets, no matter how tired we are, we will still make time for each other. We will be affectionate, loving, intimate, make love often, talk things out and laugh… We will grow TOGETHER.
Funny, on the day that she told me she was pregnant, I had read some interesting words. My note in the jar said something rather ironic…
He kissed Yasmine’s shoulder, then pulled out the nightstand drawer. He removed a little blue piece of scrap paper and began to read it.
Nixon,
Don’t say no to a new opportunity just because the thought of it may not fit your timetable. You could be looking a gift horse in the mouth. Trust the process. Trust yourself. Trust how things materialize and turn out. Whatever opportunity comes your way today, embrace it. It could be a pathway to love… a door to something you never knew you needed or wanted, until it arrives…
He shook his head, still half-surprised at it, then placed the paper back in his nightstand. He turned off the television and held the woman of his dreams into his arms. As he lay there, holding her close, his hands covering hers along her belly, he could feel his son move. Damn, that was a strong kick… One of life, one of meaning… He closed his eyes, but that didn’t stop the joyful tears from falling…
It didn’t stop the love from coming…
It didn’t stop him from feeling emotions he never knew were even possible.
Closed eyes didn’t mean blindness. Like a blindfold, they only heightened the other senses. He was in the moment. He was present. The Satyr and his bride, the Nymph, had created life.
Daddy can’t wait to see you in two and a half months, Royal Nixon Rossellini… You may have caught me and your mother by surprise, but believe me, somewhere in the universe, we prayed for you. Just like I prayed for your mother, too. I know deep down that your mother wanted you even before we got married. She never said it to me, I had made it clear how I felt about this, but I could see it in her eyes whenever we were around the young ones in our family. When I looked into her eyes and saw that desire – those unspoken words were heard loud and clear. She wanted me to give her YOU. There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do for your mother… So, I made a decision. I decided to stop obsessing over her cycles. I knew she’d missed pills that week in question soon after it happened. She keeps them in her nightstand drawer and I can see them from time to time. Three hadn’t budged in days… She didn’t do it on purpose, but I never said a word. I told myself, if it happens, it happens. It’s God’s will. Well, wouldn’t you know it? Now, here you come…
Your grandmother is right. Love is like a rollercoaster, son, and I never want the ride to end…
