Ruins of Chaos (Legacy of the Nine Realms #3) - Amelia Hutchins Page 0,218

not anymore,” I smiled sadly, moving into the library as Greer studied me with a worried look.

Inside the library, I closed the door before whispering the words to bar the entrance. My eyes slid around the room, moving toward the shelves that were revealed without me needing to ask. Wiggling my nose, a cart appeared, and I smiled.

“Thanks,” I said into the air, knowing the library was a living, breathing thing that only showed itself to those worthy of the knowledge it held.

I pulled books from shelves, piling them onto the cart before taking them to the far section of the library. I passed an opening to my left and peered down a dimly lit hallway, lined with shelves on each side, stacked from floor to ceiling with books and other objects. The hallway seemed to be never-ending, and although I felt the need to explore, my inner voice told me that now was not the time. Pushing the cart forward, I headed toward a large door that opened to my touch, revealing a substantial room decorated in masculine colors.

Inside the room, a substantial four-posture bed sat in the middle. On the walls were pictures of Sven and Liliana, all at different ages. I went to the dresser and pulled out a shirt, inhaling it to breathe in Knox’s scent. Placing it back into the dresser, I crawled onto the bed, staring up at the picture that covered the top of the canopy. Lying down, I studied a picture of me standing naked in the creek outside of the House of Magic, in the human realm.

Floating in the creek around me was the red dress I’d worn to the gathering where I’d emasculated Fallon. Claws were pushed through my nail beds, and my hands were in my hair, holding it away from my face as tears slid from my eyes. How the hell had he captured the image? I looked vulnerable and beautiful. My walls were down, broken from hearing the alpha wolves murdering Fallon after I’d brought him down for them. Sitting up, I frowned, then moved from the bed, smoothing the blankets before heading deeper into his room.

A bust of my face sat on a marble stand, and my hand slid over it, smiling. If Knox hated being around me so much, why had he captured images of me in my most vulnerable moments? I infatuated Knox when I was at my weakest? Why?

Inspecting the room, I noticed large spikes of ice that filled one long wall at the back. Stepping closer, I lowered my body, squinting to see inside them. The longer I looked, the clearer the ice became until it exposed the silhouettes of people. Moving closer still, I realized I was looking inside Hecate’s tomb, and my heart sped up, hammering, as my sisters appeared, pacing through the narrow space that was recording their images.

Standing, I scanned the room filled with images of people through the ice. Exhaling, I bristled, understanding how Knox had so easily found me even when I’d figured out how to null the effects of his tattoo for a few moments. Heading to the adjoining room, I paused as huge bones came into view, positioned around giant eggs that looked like they were created from skulls.

My hand trembled as I lifted my fingers, brushing them over the porous surface. My image shimmered in front of me, and I yelped, jumping out of my skin.

“Dragon eggs, My Queen.”

“It’s creepy that you appear with my face,” I grunted, glaring at my image as I spoke to the library.

My image shimmered, turning into Knox. I snorted, shaking my head. “Is this better?” The library asked in Knox’s thick and husky voice. I nodded, relieved that I wasn’t being forced to speak to myself anymore. “Long ago, the dragons flew within the skies of Norvalla. They were giant creatures that had wingspans of over one-hundred feet.” Knox’s image waved its hand before an enormous dragon landed in front of me, its wings wide and its mouth open as it screeched in front of me, shooting my hair into the air.

I laughed, lifting my hand to touch it, but my hand slid through its body as if made from mist. Looking at the library version of Knox, I frowned, noting it watched me with a cheeky smile on its lips. Huge arms crossed over his chest, and then we moved without warning.

I gasped, staring around as we stood in an extensive field full of phoenixes and
