The entire time, he kept pressure on Shep’s throat, aware he could crush his windpipe at any second.
“Have you decided to run along yet, boy, or do I need to pistol whip your dumbass too?”
Hatred glared back at him, but the dark eyes closed, then opened. “Let me go so I can leave.”
“What’s that?” Roq asked, wanting to hear him repeat his words.
Shep tried to swallow, which Roq made almost impossible, so he released the pressure a little. “Go ahead, boy,” he sneered, putting his face in front of Shep’s. “The next time you want to threaten someone, I suggest you make sure they’re someone your size. Oh shit, you did threaten me. I’m bigger than you too. I guess next time, you better make sure you got more than your mouth to back you, boy. I don’t play games, and you and your daddy don’t scare me.”
Roq gave him a shake that would be making his brain rattle for a good while before releasing him, uncaring the move made Shep fall on his ass.
Shep got to his feet, wiping off his jean clad ass. “This isn’t over,” he promised.
“You don’t want to start something you can’t finish, little man. Best remember that, boy,” Roq held his hand out for the hat Axl held without taking his eyes off of Shep.
“I think he shit his pants, brother.” Ridley clapped him on the shoulder, his words loud enough everyone in the quiet bar heard.
“Mister, I think you just made a really bad enemy, but I want to say thank you very much. If he’d have left with me I...I don’t know what he’d have done.”
Roq looked down at the tiny woman, his heart beating a little harder than normal against his chest. Damn she was sexy and cute all wrapped together in a dynamite package. “Was he your boyfriend or—” He trailed off waiting to see if she’d fill in the gap.
“He was my ex-boyfriend. Should’ve been my never boyfriend.” She rubbed at her ass, wincing.
“Can I buy you a drink?” Roq asked.
“Drink’s on the house.”
Roq looked up to see the woman with the shotgun who threatened to shoot the asshole standing there. She too was a tiny thing, more curvaceous than her friend, but still gorgeous. What the hell? Women in California were all gorgeous, that was a given. Yet here in this small little southern town, he was a little shocked to find three women who outshone all the women who paraded up and down Hollywood. As he looked over at his brothers by choice, he saw Axl staring at the women with a look he’d never seen on his face, the same looks on Ridley and Cannon as well. Shit, for all their sakes, he hoped like hell his brothers weren’t interested in the woman before him. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”
“Netty,” she said.
“My name’s Roq,” he told her, tipping his hat and waving for her to proceed him to the bar. They’d come to find a missing girl and landed in the middle of a bar where he wasn’t sure if he’d found a heap of trouble and probably even more. One thing was for certain though, he wasn’t going to let a little thing like Shep Calhoun, or his brothers, keep him from finding out why a tiny slip of a woman made him want things he thought he’d never have.
