“I don’t know how Cosmo hasn’t killed you yet,” King growled.
Scott dropped the black towel after wiping as much blood as he could off his hands before he faced Talena. He had put off looking at her until that moment, and what he saw nearly sent him to his knees. Silent tears streaked her cheeks, making her blue eyes look luminous.
“I’m sorry, baby.” He dropped his eyes, wishing he had the right to hold her, to tell her he loved her.
A solid body hit him, her sweet scent filling his lungs. “I knew you’d save me. I knew if I could just hide and stay safe long enough, you’d save me.”
His head came up, his arms wrapping around the only thing that mattered in that moment. “You aren’t scared of me?”
“What?” Talena asked, wrapping her legs around his hips.
Scott wasn’t sure what the hell was going on. One moment he was thinking he’d lost whatever chance he’d had with Talena, to wrapping his arms around her ass, pulling her flush against him like he wouldn’t ever let her go. “Sweetheart, did you see what I’m capable of?”
What the hell was he doing for Christ sake? If he could he’d cut his own tongue out, but in truth he had to make sure she was aware of the danger that was being with him. Not that he was a walking timebomb, but he had the ability to do what she’d witnessed. He kept a tight leash on that savage part of himself, never allowing anyone to see the things he was capable of. However, he would destroy the entire fucking world if his loved ones were in danger.
“I’ll admit it was a little scary watching you thrash Louis, but he totally deserved it. I’m glad he’s not going to be able to do what he said he was to me or anyone else. I...I think he killed Rosalie and probably a lot of others too,” she whispered.
They were in his bathroom now, and the clear indication that his home had been invaded was everywhere. Already he was making plans to put the home on the market, not wanting the taint of Louis to mar a life with Talena and him. “I know, baby girl. He was pure evil. We can’t go looking for Rosalie, or it would lead the authorities back to us. We have to make him disappear along with his men.” And for that, he hated that the victims wouldn’t get any kind of resolution.
“That’s okay, just knowing that he can’t ever harm another person makes it okay. Can we take a shower and then talk? I feel dirty,” she said, kissing his cheek.
His little miracle kissed him as if he hadn’t just made mincemeat out of a man in the middle of his office and then left the mess to be cleaned up by his friends. He didn’t know what he’d done to deserve her, but he’d be damned if he’d ever give her up. Years ago, when he’d been a little boy, he’d looked up at the sky and asked for one thing, someone to love him as he was. He’d known his mother loved him and always would, but he’d wanted a soulmate. It had taken him a long time to realize his wish had come true.
“Thank you for loving me, for giving me a chance.” He stripped himself and her outside the shower, then pulled them both inside, letting the hot water wash away the blood and doubts.
Epilogue
TALENA TWISTED HER hands on the steering wheel, wondering if Scott was going to freak out when he saw his surprise?
“Honey, why are you so nervous?” Tara Haven asked, reaching over and patting Talena’s knee.
“Because it’s Christmas Eve, and you know how Scott is about the holidays.” She bit her lip to stifle the rest of her words. Since the incident at the beach house, or rather mansion, he’d been working overtime to sell the property. What he didn’t know was she was working just as hard to foil his efforts. She almost felt bad for doing it, but she loved the home and just because some bastard had tried to do bad things there didn’t make it a bad place. Which she’d told him a dozen or so times.
