fought on the beach in Salem. I started to call for him, since we’d fought them before, but then I saw rainbow magic coil around each of the heads. Something glowing white sliced through all of them in the flash of a second. I spotted gold wings and long black hair and I smiled. Tennessee. Okay, yeah. They’ve got that one.
I glanced around and my jaw dropped. I knew The Coven was strong, they always had been, but something about this combination of Cards was absolutely lethal. I could not believe the sheer power they had. No one was even breaking a sweat.
Even Willow and Chutney were vicious. Chutney, Olli, and Albert were a trio I would never have expected but they were making it work for them even if they were splattered head-to-toe in demon blood. Willow was hanging on Kessler’s back like a school bag, just shooting blue mist over his shoulders. I had no idea what she was showing the demons but each time they saw her magic they froze…and then Kessler ripped them in half with his bare hands.
“Yo, T,” Warner shouted. “Can’t you just kill them all again like by the pier?”
“Not this many. I could go down and we don’t want that,” Tegan shouted back.
“WHAT IS THAT?” Savannah shrieked.
An object as dark as the sky shot up from the parking lot, coming from out of nowhere. It looked like a storm cloud soaring toward us.
“Morpher demon!” Deacon shouted.
Morpher demon? What the hell is — the big black cloud split into three different demons all the size of cars, then turned into giant wasp-looking things. I blinked and they changed shape again. I asked that too soon.
“SEE!” She threw her hands up in the air and rainbow magic exploded out of her.
I knew I needed to move back like he said but I was frozen in place. I couldn’t help it, watching Tegan and Tennessee fight this was a work of art. Tegan sank to her knees and her fingers flexed. Her rainbow magic coiled around all three versions of the morpher demon and held it in place. The demon hissed and thrashed but it was no match for Tegan. She wasn’t even tired.
Tennessee shot into the sky. If not for the gold wings and Michael’s glowing sword he would have been impossible to track. I tried to watch but the glare from the sword stung my eyes. Light flashed, black demon blood rained down on the dunes, and the morpher burst into dust.
Tennessee landed on his feet right beside Tegan. “Those are getting easier.”
“Why do you say things like that?” Cooper groaned.
I chuckled and turned to look for Riah. When my eyes landed on his, standing way in the back by the water, I sighed so hard I actually swayed. That fight had been the craziest moment of my life. I was terrified someone got hurt. But as I glanced around I saw everyone in our little gang up and unharmed. Wait, where are the kids?
Devon must have read my thoughts because she spun with wide eyes and shouted, “BENTLEY?”
“Here, Mom,” Bentley yelled back and I finally spotted him standing beside Riah, blending in because he was half his height. “I’m fine.”
Deacon cursed. “Amelia? Landy? Shit, where are they?”
“We’re fine, too, D,” Amelia said with a chuckle. “Cooper didn’t let us fight.”
“Thanks. Nice work, Coop.” Tennessee chuckled. “You can fight after more training.”
I shook my head and eyed the girls. They were young, yes, but not as much as Bentley. They were probably eleven or twelve years old but they didn’t look like the kind of kids who saw a lot of war.
Paulina tugged playfully on Amelia’s blonde hair. “Don’t rush to be a warrior. Trust me.”
Royce scowled and glanced around in a panic. “Guys. Guys. Where’s Henley?”
I opened my mouth to say something when I spotted someone behind Riah hovering above the water. Is that Sage? No. Can’t be. But then I saw pale glittery wings and wild blue hair and my stomach sank. SAGE. And then she dove for my soulmate. I screamed, “Riah!”
Chapter Fifty-Two
Savannah
Saffie’s eyes widened and her face turned white. “Riah!” She screamed.
The panic in her voice had me turning toward him before I consciously told myself to. Everything slipped into slow motion. Riah looked up to Saffie and scowled. He lifted his sword, like he knew something was coming for him.
A woman appeared out of nowhere right behind him. I gasped. It was that
