“Purple circle changes your outfit into something funky,” Savannah said with a grin. “Pink changes your hair color. Turquoise gives you tattoos – all wear off at midnight, Cinderella style. Now let’s talk food…”
Saraphina spun toward her. “Okay, what so?”
“So all of the food on the tables will refill themselves when it gets low or empty. Also. I’m not sure what the deal with the cake is but I know their mothers were very excited with it. So we’ll see, I guess.” She shrugged and led us farther into the room. “Up ahead are the drinks—”
“What do the colors mean here?”
I grinned. Saraphina was quick, she didn’t miss things and I loved that.
“The yellow punch makes you giggly, but in a sober safe way. The green makes you chilled out. The blue gives you hallucinations but to be honest I’m not so sure what they’re seeing, everyone seems to be having fun.” She pointed to a bunch of teenagers giggling and pointing at the ceiling. “Go ahead, grab a drink.”
Saraphina and I both reached for the green punch at the same exact time. Her face flushed as she held her cup up to her face. “And what does it taste like?”
“Whatever you want it to. Just think it then drink it.”
Saraphina took a sip of her green punch then gasped, her eyes widening. “It worked! I wanted apple cider and I got apple cider!”
Hmm, I wonder… I thought of a special cocktail back home in Seelie that was literally not found anywhere in this realm. But as the green liquid hit my tongue I wanted to moan with satisfaction. That sweet fruity taste mixed with the smoked taste brought back a ton of memories.
“Pretty cool, eh? Come on. Outside is better.” She spun and pushed her way out the back door…and then chaos unfolded around us. “Tegan put up a barrier so that no one outside of the party can see or hear what’s happening.”
I nodded. Smart.
On the terrace with us, Constance sat on a couch with Daniel with people crowded around her. She took a person’s hand in hers and then a crystal would appear. A few seats over, Kenneth was reading tarot cards. Hunter was eating and seemed to be rather enjoying himself.
“One…two…three…open your eyes!” Devon shouted to a ring of giggling kids. Light flashed and then all the players lifted their little hands off their faces and dropped them to their sides. “Which one’s the real me?”
I laughed and glanced around. I spotted Bentley instantly in front of a massive screen. Other kids his age laughed and played along. I looked to the left, toward another huge screen but bigger. My jaw dropped. There were even little picnic tables set around, with pillows and blankets. It looked cozy.
“OH!” Saraphina clapped her hands together. “Which movie?”
“It depends.” Savannah pointed to a small wooden table in the grass, with crystal balls in big jars. “There’s five movie options. Each bowl says which movie it represents. All you do is take one of those crystals and sit it on your blanket and that’s the movie you’ll see and hear.”
“That’s incredible —” Saraphina gasped then burst into giggles. “Well, they look comfortable.”
I frowned and followed her stare…and found Tenn and Tegan sprawled out on a huge blanket with a ton of pillows. They were laying there all cuddled up, their arms and legs tangled together. They were petting each other and playing with their hair. Every few seconds they would laugh.
“Huh.” Savannah snorted. “I’m kind of surprised those two aren’t having fun with everyone else.”
Saraphina grinned. “This is their fun. Relaxing, just being together like a normal couple. They’ve been through a lot.”
I couldn’t help but notice they were alone. There wasn’t a line or crowd of people trying to get to them. “Everyone is leaving them alone, did they put a spell?”
Savannah grinned. “Oh, that’s rule number one of the party. You’re not allowed to pester The Coven, especially the Leaders. If you do you get the boot.”
Noise and laughter erupted from the back half of the yard.
I glanced down at Saraphina and my heart caught in my throat. Her lavender eyes were wide and shimmering with excitement. This was a whole new world for her. She was experiencing so many things for the first time, I was just thrilled to there to watch.
“Is that a…a…watering hole?” Saraphina scowled. “That is not the appropriate term.”
Savannah threw her head back and laughed. “It is a swimming pool.”
