doesn’t like her job, but there isn’t a thing in the world that’s going to knock me from my happy place right now.
I glance around the room, focusing on the HIPPA declarations hanging on the wall as she types in my information from the card.
“Is it the same name on your account as on your insurance card?” she asks as she drops my card back into the dip for me to grab.
“It is.” I put the little slice of gold back in my purse. “I’d like to start paying a hundred dollars a month.”
It’s going to take me a lifetime to pay all the bills down, but that doesn’t seem as much a burden now after getting hired at the bank.
“Your account is paid in full.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“That’s impossible. Who paid them?”
“I can’t disclose that.”
“You can’t tell me who paid my bills?”
She looks up at me, a bored expression still locked in place. “They’re paid in full.”
If I could fit through that little dip in the counter, I’d—
I give her a pinched smile. “Thank you for your help.”
She doesn’t say a word as I walk away, and I stew all the way back to the car, to the house, and things only get worse when I pull up in front of the house.
I can’t even park in the damn driveway. Rocker’s truck is there beside Jinx’s SUV. In front of them are their bikes, but it’s the addition of another damn SUV that makes me want to kick it as I walk by.
Everything agitates me, which sucks because I was having a great day. I barely resist spitting on the bike nearest the door when I walk past it.
“Who?” I yell as soon as I step inside and slam the door behind me.
I smack Jinx’s hand away before he can touch my belly.
“Who paid my damn hospital bills?” It had to have been one of them.
“Not me,” Jinx says, his hands held up near his head in mock surrender. “I bought your new car.”
My eyes narrow on him. “You what?”
“Didn’t you see it parked in the driveway? It has all the latest security features.”
“What is she pissed about now?” My head shifts to Rocker as he enters the room.
“Hospital bills,” Jinx mutters.
“You paid my hospital bills?” I ask.
He looks from me back to his friend. “Does she know you bought the Tahoe?”
I half growl half scream, but neither one drops the smile from their faces.
Chapter 37
Rocker
Damn she’s gorgeous when she’s feisty, but I don’t open my mouth to say those words. I’ve gotten pretty good at reading her moods, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen her this fired up before.
I err on the side of caution and take a hesitant step in her direction.
“Touch me right now and I’ll scream,” she warns.
“You’re already screaming.” The glare she shoots at Jinx could level an entire army.
“Would you like me to run you a bath?”
Her eyes narrow, but I can tell she’s considering it. Baths are always her go-to when she’s in a mood.
“I’ll do it,” Jinx offers before bounding toward the stairs.
“Motherfucker,” I grumble at his back as he disappears, leaving me with the woman that’s more feral beast right now than the smiling woman I wake up to every morning.
“You want to talk now or after my bath?”
Her cheeks are red, flushed from both her anger and the overpowering heat outside.
“After the bath,” I declare because honestly, I don’t want her to say things that will only upset her later.
She’s not the best at keeping a lid on her emotions, but she manages to clamp her jaw shut and make her way to the stairs. I don’t say a word when she lets her purse fall to the floor in the middle of the hall or when she kicks her shoes off. I could spit nails that she’s only in her bra and panties by the time she makes it to our room, but instead of opening my mouth like a fool, I just trail behind her, gathering her discarded items.
Jinx keeps his eyes low as he walks out of our en suite, and I’m grateful I don’t have to kill him right now since I have other things to worry about.
At the door, he spins back around. “I used the lavend—”
His mouth clamps shut when Simone unclasps her bra and lets it fall to the carpet before she even makes it to the bathroom door.
When I look over my shoulder, I see our door being pulled closed, and a sense
