speak, but the longer he stays in my presence the more agitated I grow.

“Are we going to talk about this mess?”

He places his cup of coffee on the workbench before grabbing a chair and dragging it across the concrete to sit in front of me. I glare at the cup as if it offended me personally as I long for my own deserted cup in the kitchen.

“What’s there to talk about?”

“Simone.”

Just the sound of her name coming off his lips makes my hand twitch to hit him again, but what would that solve? He’s well within his right to knock the shit out of me, but he’s displaying that cool sense of calm that usually makes my own internal anger settle.

Always the fucking hero.

“I told you I wasn’t going to cause problems.”

“We don’t even have the test results back.”

“And we didn’t last week when you declared her off-limits,” I remind him.

He leans forward, resting his bent elbows on his knees, but he doesn’t speak. I’ve known him long enough to realize he’s forcing my hand. We’re going to talk about this whether I’m in the mood for it or not. I can see the maturity in it, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

“Why aren’t you with Simone right now?”

“We aren’t together,” he replies as if it’s that simple.

“She’s fucking pregnant and alone. You’re over here fucking another woman. You can do whatever the hell you want but she can’t do the same?”

I lift my head to glare at him, but his eyes are still lowered, focused on his clasped hands.

“This situation is complicated.”

I huff a humorless laugh. “You’re telling me.”

“How do we solve it? Can’t you spend time with her without sticking your dick in her? It won’t take that long for the results. I called in some favors to get that shit processed quicker.”

Of course he did. Miles Alexander has never done well with waiting for answers.

“And I’m just supposed to walk away if you’re the dad? I’m supposed to pretend that I don’t—” I rub my hands down my face and grumble my frustration. “If you’re the dad, she’s supposed to stay single and alone? Can’t you see how unfair that is?”

“So you want me to stop fucking other women?”

“Are you really that dense? This isn’t about what you’re doing. It’s about you dictating her damn life.”

“It’s fucking weird, man. I know you can see my point. What if the tables were turned? You want someone shoving their dick within inches of your kid?”

The thought makes my skin crawl, and as fucked up as it is, I know that this conversation would be reversed if it turns out I’m the dad and Simone decides she wants to date someone who isn’t me.

“Exactly.” He leans back grinning at me, and I hate the smug look on his face that’s there because he just proved his point. “Just wait for the results. That’s all I’m asking.”

I sigh. “Waiting for the results isn’t the problem, Miles. What happens after?”

He shrugs. “I don’t fucking know, but just wait.”

He stands, clapping me on the shoulder before walking out of the garage. We got exactly nowhere with this visit, but at least I know he doesn’t hate me. He isn’t holding a grudge for the fist he took to the face, and maybe that’s the most I can wish for right now.

Unable to sit any longer, I jump on my bike and head to Simone’s. She shouldn’t have been alone last night. Even if we weren’t touching, I should’ve been beside her in the bed last night.

She looks gorgeous when she tugs open the door.

“I’m a mess,” she mutters as she steps to the side and touches the tangle of hair on her head.

“You’re beautiful all the time.” I press a kiss to her temple but take a step back before I can breathe her in. My restraint is only so strong after all. “I came to check on you. Jinx got busy last night. You weren’t supposed to be alone.”

She snorts as she walks toward the kitchen, understanding exactly what distracted Jinx.

“I’m fine, Rocker.” When did I start hating the sound of my road name coming from her lips? “It was actually nice to have a little break.”

“Unfortunately, you’ll get plenty of breaks. We work a lot.”

She points to the coffee pot, but I shake my head. The ride over rejuvenated me, and caffeine at this point would only make me jittery.

“I’ve been alone for a long time. It doesn’t
