chance.

Morgan…

He hadn’t stopped thinking about him all afternoon. Ah, who the fuck was he kidding? The guy had been living in his head since the ball game earlier in the week. And today, when Morgan came to his apartment after locking himself out and kept apologizing for the interruption? Thank fucking God he didn’t know the interruption was catching Leo in the midst of a dirty jerk-off session, thinking about him. How the hell did that smartass wiggle under his skin and why? Then Leo thought about Morgan’s wide, soft mouth, and the air of vulnerability surrounding him, and almost groaned out loud. His jaw tightened in frustration.

He’d needed some release. He’d spoken to Natalia that morning, who told him his mother had suffered a TIA—a transient ischemic attack—which could be a sign of an impending stroke. Leo sat on a hair trigger, wondering each time the phone rang if it would be bad news.

Spending time with Becca Cantrell, a real, loving mother, only made him long for a past he could never get back and a mother he never had. After Morgan came home and picked her up, Leo had done his usual penance for the anger winding through him and punched a bag until his arms were too weak to lift, but it did nothing to ease the pain. Not until Morgan came to mind. Imagining that mouth on his dick was the only thing that calmed him down.

Peter interrupted his thoughts. “Let’s get a beer.” PJ and Evan squirmed out of their father’s arms and ran to the swing set, leaving Leo alone with his friend. With a sinking heart, Leo knew his own personal one-on-one session was about to begin. He didn’t want to answer questions. He’d been on the verge of canceling the whole evening once Morgan had busted in on him. Spending the evening with him would be torture, knowing he was exactly the type of guy Marla wanted for him. The hints were going to be less subtle and more like sledgehammers.

That didn’t stop you from jacking off, picturing Morgan on his knees, that pretty mouth filled with your dick.

He grabbed the bottle Peter handed over and drank half of it in two gulps.

“Whoa, dude. Pace yourself. You drove here, plus you have someone else’s welfare to think about.”

“Thanks, Dad,” Leo said, allowing his irritation to rise. He searched the yard. Where the hell did Marla take Morgan?

“Tell me about him. What’s his deal?”

“Who?” Leo took another hit of beer, and Peter plucked the bottle from his hands. “Hey, what the fuck?”

“Watch your mouth; my kids are here. And don’t play cute with me. You know who I’m talking about.”

Leo shrugged. “I’ve talked about him before. He moved in late in the spring. He’s a school teacher and divorced from his husband.” Despite himself, he allowed a smile to curve his lips. “Kind of a walking disaster.”

Peter crossed his arms. “Oh, yeah? He’s the one who shorted out the lights? You mentioned one incident. There’ve been others?”

“Yeah. I mean, the first time I met him, he tripped and fell down a few of the steps. I should’ve known then. But aside from the electricity, he almost burned down his apartment. Then today, his mother came to visit, and he locked himself out of his apartment.”

Peter’s hearty laugh filled the air. “Sounds like he’s kept you busy.”

“Yeah. Too busy.”

And where the hell is Morgan?

God only knew what he was telling Marla. She was a master at ferreting out information from unwitting people, and Morgan, nice guy that he was, would be putty in her hands.

The screen door slammed.

Finally.

Morgan and Marla came into the yard, all smiles and chatty as if they were best friends. Leo’s stomach tightened at their approach. He hated having his personal life on display, but at the same time, he enjoyed the view of Morgan’s nicely muscled, long body in those skinny jeans that gave him legs for days and the thin T-shirt that clung to his tight abs.

“Morgan has been telling me about all the work you’ve done on the garden, Leo. It must look beautiful.”

Leo gave a weak smile. “Yeah, well, it was Cantr—I mean Morgan’s idea. He did all the work.”

“I just think it’s nice in a city to be surrounded by as much green and flowers as we can.” Morgan shrugged, and Marla’s smile brightened.

“I agree. I hope you get to do the same for the new building.”

Morgan’s brow furrowed. “New building?”

“Peter and I bought another
