and my body reacted accordingly.

When I gestured for him to come in, he begrudgingly did so; he even hit the bottom of the door with his ankle to close it a bit. Not all the way, but enough someone walking by wouldn’t necessarily see what was going on inside the room.

It was a far cry from how he’d first acted when he started coming into this house on the regular, but lately, I’d admit, he and I hadn’t gotten enough time alone together. I missed him, I did. His strong arms, his scratchy cheeks, the heat in his gaze when he looked at me like I was the only person to exist.

Out of everyone, he was my rock.

“Your mother sent me up here to make sure you have an appropriate outfit for tomorrow,” Jacob said, his rough voice so low I immediately wanted to melt into him.

I had black leggings, and a black shirt. That would have to do. I supposed I could wear the black dress I’d worn to the dance, but with the memories that came with it, I probably shouldn’t.

I left my closet wide open, moving closer to Jacob, watching as his spine got straighter the closer I got. “I do,” I purred out, knowing my mom was still downstairs with Archer. Ollie was in his office. We were as alone as we could possibly get. I reached for his chest, running a hand along the smooth fabric of his button-down shirt.

Jacob grabbed my hand, tugging it off him as he scowled at me.

“What?” I asked, sounding as innocent as I could.

“You…” Jacob appeared to be unable to say anything else, and I couldn’t help myself; I stepped even closer, leaning my chest against his. He still held onto my wrist, but unlike my hand, he didn’t push my entire body away.

Such hard muscles…

“Stop, Jaz,” he muttered, frowning.

God, was I mad to love that frown?

I didn’t think. I let my body do the talking. Standing on my tippy toes, I planted a sweet, long, lingering kiss on his lips. He tasted of sweat and smelled of musk, and I couldn’t get enough. If things were different, if we were alone, I’d have him carry me to the bed and have his way with me.

He was slow in releasing my wrist, both of his hands falling to my waist, gripping me a bit harder than was necessary. He whispered, his lips brushing against mine with each word, “Why do you do this to me, Jaz?”

“Because it’s fun,” I purred out. “Because I like it. Because I like you. Take your pick.” My mouth rose to meet his again, swallowing whatever retort he had ready. It was only a few seconds later when I started to feel something budding between us. Or, rather, between his legs.

It really didn’t take much from me to get him excited, huh? Call me prideful, but I liked that I had that kind of power over him.

Suddenly he turned forceful, pushing my body away from his as he muttered, “That’s enough.” He tossed a look over his shoulder, finding that the bedroom door hadn’t moved, that no one was there spying on us. When he returned his intense stare to me, he added, “Now I have to go downstairs and try to hide this.”

He didn’t need to elaborate on what this was, for my eyes fell down to his crotch, spotting a slight bulge there. It wasn’t a full-blown erection, so at least there was that. If we would’ve made out a little more, I was certain we could’ve got there.

“Eh,” I spoke, shrugging his problem off, “you’ll be fine.”

Jacob rolled his eyes, slow to leave my room. I watched him go, letting my gaze drop to his ass. That man did have a fine ass, I had to say. It was enticing no matter what pants covered it up. Slacks, jeans, dress pants…

Now was not the time to imagine seeing him in a suit, but I couldn’t help myself. He’d look even better in a suit, one hundred percent.

Later that night, we had dinner. Mom made meatloaf and gravy, and to my shock it was actually pretty good. Ollie took his meal upstairs, leaving Mom and me to dine with Archer. Jacob had gone home about an hour ago, even though Ollie had told him it’d be fine to stay the night. Maybe kissing him had gone a bit too far, but whatever. I missed the guy. Sue me.

Archer hardly ate, even with
