heard the mother calling out for her daughter, poor thing.”

Acer slammed his hand on the table. “Poor thing? Her father was responsible for what happened to me. They’re both living like royalty compared to what I went through.”

Mom paled and Liv stared at Acer as her jaw dropped.

“Everyone, let’s calm down.” I intervened.

“No, Raiden. Let’s face the facts. I almost died and most likely would have. That woman’s father is trying to kill us.” He aimed a piercing gaze at my mother. “Don’t you get it? How many times have we moved? How many houses need to explode or bombs go off before it sinks in? Does one of us have to die first?”

Dad stood up. “Acer, that’s enough. You’ve upset your mother.”

“Good. That was my intention. This isn’t some kind of vacation we’re on. This is a life or death situation. We’re paying a lot of money to keep everyone safe, not to mention taking a big chance on this scheme working. The least she could do is support us. We’re not some fly-by-night idiots putting a stupid plan together. This is a group of highly trained individuals using top-notch intelligence. Give us some credit, Mom.”

Scottie gripped my thigh, and I glanced at her. The tension in the air was thick. I cleared my throat to get everyone’s attention.

“This has been more than difficult on everyone. Mom, Acer is right. The man we’re after is the worst you can imagine. Please let us do our jobs. The woman downstairs has not or will not be harmed, nor will her daughter. It’s just a ploy to get the father to give himself up. There are things about this you don’t know or understand. All we ask is that you put your trust in us.”

She nodded her agreement, then stood. “If you’ll excuse me, I’m going upstairs. I’m sorry for the ruined dinner.”

Acer went after her, I assume to apologize or make amends. He wasn’t the sort to let things hang.

Cruze told us later they’d worked things out. Dad was glad because he hated any discord between us.

Later, as Scottie and I were getting into bed, she brought up the incident. “Your mom’s reaction surprised me.”

“To be honest, it did me too. She hasn’t reacted like that before, and she’s seen everything going on.”

“Maybe it’s the stress.”

“Possibly. It hasn’t been easy living under the same roof as everyone.”

Scottie chuffed out a laugh. “No kidding. And they’ve been here the entire time. The pressure must be a killer.”

“True. Knowing Acer, I’m sure he got it all worked out.”

She wrapped her arms around my neck and said, “I’d like to work something out with you.”

“Yeah?”

“Mmm hmm.” Her lips peppered kisses across my chin.

“What might that be?”

“This.” Her hand unzipped my pants and stroked my cock, which had sprung from the prison of my jeans.

“Mmm. I’d like that too.” She dropped to her knees and wrapped her fiery mouth around me. Her tongue licked the sensitive spot near my tip and she slid me in deep as she sucked me off. God, she was a goddess at this. “That’s so good, princess. Yes, like that.”

One hand fisted me as she went down, over and over, until I was close to blowing. “I’m going to come, babe.” She kept at it until I busted one long and hard. “Damn, Scottie. That was really something.”

It was all I could do to rein myself in when she ran her tongue over her glistening lips. “You are the most beautiful woman.” I pulled her to her feet and pushed her backward until her ass hit the bed. “My turn.”

I gave as good as I got. She writhed beneath my ministrations, as I tongued and fingered her to a climax. Before she said a word, my mouth latched onto a nipple and I sucked hard. I had her moaning and squirming again. While my mouth worked her breasts, my fingers brought her to another orgasm. Then I kissed her.

“Your mouth is made for this,” I said. “Perfect lips I dream about.”

“You always know exactly what to say.”

“I only tell the truth and what’s on my mind.”

“Then I’ll tell you what’s on my mind. I don’t believe that one finds love. I believe love finds you. I was fortunate enough for it to find me twice. You may not be my first, Raiden, but I want you to be my last.”

I stared into her eyes, eyes that were windows into her heart, and all I saw was love shining from
