Rage (Her Monsters Book One) - K.A Knight Page 0,27

in the bed, I pull the covers over me and make my own little nest underneath. Ironic, I know, but it’s where dragons feel the safest, especially with everything changing.

Finally shutting my eyes, I let sleep take me.

I hold my hands out in front of my face and frown at the see-through quality. It has been a long time since I was able to enter another’s dreams or minds. It only happens with mates or close family. Since all my family is dead, this must be my mysterious mate’s head.

It’s a constant irritation that we can’t master this during wakefulness, but it seems the only time the mind wanders enough to achieve a full connection, especially across distances, is during sleep when you are vulnerable.

Dropping my hands, I look around at the dream she is obviously having. A woman sits on the edge of a body of water with her back towards me.

She’s small, probably half my height, with long blonde hair curling down her shapely back. I can’t make out much else so I walk closer, stopping when I’m next to her. She looks up at me, she doesn’t seem surprised or scared. Her eyes are the deepest blue I have ever seen, like the fire stones we keep in our homeland. Her lush mouth quirk up, drawing my eyes.

She’s gorgeous, all sensuality and beauty. It radiates from her.

“Who are you?” she asks, her voice low and velvety.

“My name is Aska, yours?” I sit next to her and she keeps her eyes on me.

“Dawn, I like your hair,” she replies, her eyes locked on the short, pastel purple waves that sit unruly on the top of my head. “Your eyes too.”

I grin at that, if only she saw them when I used my powers, they would glow black and purple and she would be terrified.

“Thank you, Neriso,” I say automatically, the dragon word which roughly means ‘mated or mine’ slipping from my tongue.

She tilts her head at that. “It’s beautiful, say it again.”

“Neriso.” My accent changes, using my dragon tongue and dialect, and her eyes light up.

“What does it mean?” she inquires.

“I will tell you when I see you,” I reply with a chuckle.

“See me? I’m guessing you don’t mean in wherever we are right now?” She leans back, her body rippling with the movement. I swallow hard and draw my eyes back to her face, trying to ignore the curvaceous body of my mate.

“Yes. I am coming to you,” I mumble.

“Why?” she questions with an innocence in her words that stops me.

“What are you, Neriso?” I query.

“I don’t know, I thought I was human until I died.” She looks back at the water, calm.

“You died?” I roar, getting to my feet as my fists clench, and scales emerge on my skin.

She looks back and must notice them because her mouth drops open and she jumps to her feet. “You’re a dragon?” she asks in awe.

“Yes, you died? Who? When?” I growl rapidly.

She grins, shaking her head as she reaches out and touches the iridescent scales covering my arm. If I was in full dragon form they would be black as night, but for some reason, in this half shift, they are always iridescent purple and greens.

“The colours are beautiful, what do you look like when you shift?”

“I shall show you later, now answer me,” I demand, agitated. My monster wanting to burst out of my skin, grab her, and fly away.

“My husband,” she answers distractedly, stroking my arm still. I try to ignore the tingles it sends down my body, even as my dragon preens at her touch. Then her words penetrate the fog in my brain that her touch is causing.

“Husband?” My words drip with malice at someone claiming the creature before me.

“I guess it would be ex-husband now. Don’t worry, I plan to get my revenge.” She grins up at me, her eyes lighting up with an intensity and anger that staggers me as it sends my cock and emotions into overdrive. I expected a fragile mate I would need to protect, but the unknown creature before me, stroking my dragon as she speaks of murder, is anything but.

She tilts her head, her eyes unfocused before they come back to me sadly. “I think I’m waking up. Will I see you again, Dragon?” she asks.

“Would you like to?”

“Yes.”

“Then you shall. I will be here waiting until I can meet you in the flesh, Neriso,” I reply automatically. She already has my dragon wrapped around her little
